Sliders was good to start with, but slowly went off the rails, I gave up on it before it finished.

I'll give any reboot a shot though.

The last season was really bad. Quinn (the actor) had a falling out with them over something, I think it was to do with his brother not being kept in the series, and they both left. After that it went downhill big time.

Waterworld series in the works.

Quote:

Universal Content Productions is planning as a continuation of the original movie that will pick up twenty years later focusing on the same characters. No additional details are currently available nor is there any word on whether they will attempt to get the original actors to reprise their roles. The film’s producer John Davis is involved with the series and 10 Cloverfield Lane‘s Dan Trachtenberg has been attached as director. A network has not been identified yet, but this will be an expensive venture–as was the original film–so it will likely head to one of the major streaming services since they have been throwing a lot of money at their original productions of late. UCP is owned by NBCUniversal, so consider Peacock to be a likely landing spot for the series if it does go forward.

Fantastic, I loved the film. I would love to see something like this picked up by Apple, it is right up their street in terms on high end production ventures.

South Park fans will be pleased at this.

Quote:

The creators of “South Park” have signed a new deal with ViacomCBS Inc. that will pay them more than $900 million over the next six years, one of the richest deals in TV history.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone will use the money to make new episodes of “South Park” for Viacom’s Comedy Central network and to create several spinoff movies for the company’s Paramount+ streaming service, the parties said Thursday. Their first project under the new deal will be a movie set in the world of “South Park” that will debut some time before the end of the year.

The deal with Parker and Stone is the clearest sign yet of ViacomCBS’s growing commitment to Paramount+. The streaming service trails the likes of Netflix and Disney+, but has added millions of subscribers since it rebranded in March. ViacomCBS is looking to the addition of “South Park” movies to accelerate its growth. The series remains the most popular TV show on Comedy Central.

Joe Mollazzi is working on a pitch to Netfix for a miniseries to resolve the cliffhanger at the end of Dark Matter season 3.

Quote:

Finally started work on the pitch for the Dark Matter miniseries. I’ve spent the past week or so running through the basic story and structure, ultimately landing on a six episode arc that will cover the alien chapter originally planned for the show’s fourth season.

Set three years after the events of Episode 313, a missing player returns with the key to thwarting a massive alien invasion. In order to defeat this formidable enemy, unlikely alliances will be forged, long-held secrets will be revealed, and the seeds of an even greater threat will be sown.

All the cast have agreed to come back when and if it gets picked up. Just a matter of scheduling for those on other shows but perfectly doable.

The CW has ordered the Nancy Drew Spinoff series Tom Swift.

The character, described as a "Black, gay, billionaire inventor" previously appeared in a Season 2 backdoor pilot (Episode 15).

Given the late announcement, its likely to be a 13 episode season, with a Spring debut.

As far as I can tell, this is indeed another case of TV blatently converting a character, PC style. In the original books he is white, and afaik, not gay.

I like the Nancy Drew series, so obviously I saw him in the backdoor pilot.
He was ok, nothing special, but interesting. Of course, they had to make a big fuss about the whole gay thing.

I will give the season a try, and hope they concentrate on the adventures, if it turns out to just another load of pc/blm/gay preach, then I'll drop it.

I am not sure about this at all. He has always been a very serious character and this looks more comedic and silly.

Chris 14-09-2021 23:14

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other TV Snippets

I think the problem is we’ve never really seen as much of him as we might have liked. He’s always been the supporting character, even when he had longer sequences with Nat in Endgame. He is certainly a bit broody early on in the MCU and he’s in a very dark place at the beginning of Endgame but then he has lost his entire family in the snap. We don’t yet know what getting them back has done to him.

So far, all the MCU TV series have stayed true to the continuity, not taking liberties with the characters but allowing them to grow and develop in their own space. I have no reason to doubt they’ll manage the same here.

Paul 20-09-2021 22:57

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other TV Snippets

Apprently its just called 4400 (no 'The').

Teasers are never a great thing to to go by.
However, they certainly dont inspire me to want to see it.

It also seems the mysterious force involved here just loved to kidnap coloured people.

Then again, the shows basic description really gives that away;
Quote:

In the new version, 4400 overlooked, undervalued, or otherwise marginalized people who vanished without a trace over the last hundred years are all returned in an instant
I predict lots of PC & Political Preaching and an early exit from it by me, I'd love to be wrong, but I have little faith I will.

I can't find enough emoticons and gifs to express my dismay. Even if they replicated the story and script word for word there is no way you can reproduce those acting performances. It wasn't just one person, it was all of them and I do not parrot these names of lightly: Captain Sheridan, Delenn, Vir, Londo, G'Kar, Garibaldi, Ivanova, Bester, even flipping Zathras for god sake. It is like Game of Thrones where there are so many amazing characters and performances and it doesn't need to be remade ever.

Possibly not a remake.
This from Claudia Christian:

Quote:

I know some of you saw the announcement that WB is doing a B5 reboot series and I know you have lots of questions for me like “Are you playing Ivanova?” “Are there going to be telepaths?” “What year is it taking place in?”
Well folks, I know nothing…..zip…nada. Joe has kept us in the loop from day one on this, because he wants us involved with the show, but we have no idea at this time what's in the script or what the story is. Only Joe knows that for now, so you should go bug him about it.
He won't tell you, but the results should be amusing. I personally am grateful that I will, once again, be uttering the great maker’s fabulous dialogue….but I know not what that will entail. Exciting, eh?

General Maximus 27-09-2021 21:26

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other TV Snippets

Thank god, at least it is a type of continuation and not a remake. Absolute damn shame so many of the cast have passed away. For those of you who dont know Delenn, Vir, Londo, G'Kar, Garibaldi, Dr Franklin and Zack have left us, possibly a few more. The only surviving cast members are Sheridan, Ivanova and Lenir.

I dont know if the dude who scored the soundtrack is still alive but they need to get him back as well.

Watching those intros again has made me want to watch them all again. Such a phenomenal series.

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other TV Snippets

Re Babylon 5 reboot - one of the Space Opera FB groups I’m in posted this.

Quote:

Just for more information about Straczynski's plans for the Babylon 5 reboot, I consolidated a set of his tweets so they're easier to read, starting with this one:

https://twitter.com/straczynski/stat...21160529661952

"The network understands the uniqueness of Babylon 5 and is giving me a great deal of latitude with the storytelling. As noted in the announcement, this is a reboot from the ground up rather than a continuation, for several reasons.

Heraclitus wrote “You cannot step in the same river twice, for the river has changed, and you have changed.” In the years since B5, I’ve done a ton of other TV shows and movies, adding an equal number of tools to my toolbox, all of which I can bring to bear on one singular question:
If I were creating Babylon 5 today, for the first time, knowing what I now know as a writer, what would it look like? How would it use all the storytelling tools and technological resources available in 2021 that were not on hand then?
How can it be used to reflect the world in which we live, and the questions we are asking and confronting every day? Fans regularly point out how prescient the show was and is of our current world; it would be fun to take a shot at looking further down the road.

So we will not be retelling the same story in the same way because of what Heraclitus said about the river. There would be no fun and no surprises. Better to go the way of Westworld or Battlestar Galactica where you take the original elements that are evergreens and put them in a blender with a ton of new, challenging ideas, to create something fresh yet familiar. To those asking why not just do a continuation, for a network series like this, it can’t be done because over half our cast are still stubbornly on the other side of the Rim.

How do you telling continuing story of our original Londo without the original Vir? Or G’Kar? How do you tell Sheridan’s story without Delenn? Or the story of B5 without Franklin? Garibaldi? Zack?

The original Babylon 5 was ridiculously innovative: the first to use CGI to create ships and characters, and among the very first to shoot widescreen with a vigorous 5.1 mix. Most of all, for the first time, Babylon 5 introduced viewers accustomed to episodic television to the concept of a five-year arc with a pre-planned beginning, middle and end…creating a brand new paradigm for television storytelling that has subsequently become the norm. That tradition for innovation will continue in this new iteration, and I hope to create additional new forms of storytelling that will further push the television medium to the edge of what’s possible.

Let me conclude by just saying how supportive and enthusiastic everyone at the CW has been and is being with this project. They understand the unique position Babylon 5 occupies both in television and with its legions of fans, and are doing everything they can to ensure the maximum in creative freedom, a new story that will bring in new viewers while honoring all that has come before.

Onward!"

Get ready for future episodes of you favourite US series to be delayed if not already shot and edited.

Quote:

The members of the International Association of Theatrical Stage Employees have voted to approve a strike authorization, giving the union president the power to shut down film and TV production across the country.

The vote passed with 98.7 percent support, and 90 percent turnout — a resounding outcome that the union hopes will strengthen its bargaining position.

Talks have stalled between the union and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents the studios. The unions have been negotiating since May on a new contract, and are seeking to address long-standing concerns, including long hours on set, streaming wage scales and residuals, and the stability of the pension and health funds.

“The members have spoken loud and clear,” Matthew D. Loeb, the international president, said in a statement. “This vote is about the quality of life as well as the health and safety of those who work in the film and television industry. Our people have basic human needs like time for meal breaks, adequate sleep, and a weekend. For those at the bottom of the pay scale, they deserve nothing less than a living wage.”
Will affect films too.

Nice, it needs a proper home. I think I saw it advertised on PickTV last year but it needs a good permanent which people know they can go to whenever they want and enjoy it.

The latest incarnation of Superman will come out as bisexual in a new comic book.

Jon Kent - the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane - has followed in his father's footsteps and, as well as saving the world, also fallen for a reporter.

The storyline was announced on National Coming Out Day, an annual LGBTQ+ awareness day.

I know they are trying make each series stand apart from one another but I really dont like the look and feel of this. I would actually have preferred it if it was the complete opposite and more dark and serious.

If you want dark and brooding go and watch DC. And while you’re at it, ponder why the DC cinematic universe is a mess while the MCU continues to conquer all.

Feige and his team have found a winning formula that they’re not going to ditch. The MCU is colourful, capable of being dark but is always able to take a step back and chuckle at itself. It actually likes its heroes and still believes in good people doing good things.

Excellent. I’ve really enjoyed this so far. And as the whole family has watched the American Office over the last few months there are a few John Krasinski fans in the house now. Maybe I won’t have to watch the next two seasons alone. :D

Great first season. Very average second. I hope things are better for the next two.

Seems other share that opinion:

Quote from Salon.com: Surprise, surprise! Men of the World Wide Web have mobilized once again — no, not over the rapidly worsening climate catastrophe, stagnant wages, the broken health care system, or endemic rape culture, but rather, over a real issue: the outfit of a female bounty hunter in the live-action adaptation of beloved anime series "Cowboy Bebop." Netflix released first-look images Monday, and the reaction was quite revealing . . . about one character's not revealing outfit.
In case members are not familiar with the character and attire:

Given that Faye Valentine's outfit is readily available from cosplay outlets it seems a pity they went away from it.

Let’s face it, there’s a whole lot of Anime stuff that’s never going to make it unaltered as live action, mainstream TV. Female assassins only run around in gold bikinis in the dreams of teenage boys. And Japanese animation.

Raised By Wolves is due to return for Season 2 [on HBO Max] in "early 2022".

Hayden Christensen is reprising the role of Anakin Skywalker [Darth Vader] in Ahsoka.

The Great is returning on Hulu for Season 2 next month (Season 1 was 'Great').

A Discovery of Witches returns for its 3rd (and apparently final) final season in Jan 2022.

the DC drama NAOMI follows the journey of a cool, confident, comic book–loving teenager as she pursues her hidden destiny. When a supernatural event shakes her small hometown of Port Oswego, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, with a little help from her fiercely loyal best friend Annabelle. She also has the support of her adoptive, doting parents, veteran military officer Greg and linguist Jennefer. After an encounter with Zumbado, the mysterious owner of a used car lot, leaves her shaken, Naomi turns to tattoo shop owner Dee, who becomes her reluctant mentor. While unraveling the mystery of herself, Naomi also navigates her high school friendships with both military kids and local townies, including ex-boyfriend and high school jock Nathan; Annabelle’s longtime, loyal boyfriend Jacob, proud “townie” Anthony; and fellow comic book enthusiast Lourdes. As Naomi journeys to the heights of the Multiverse in search of answers, what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.

Chucky looks to be going down like a lead balloon.

Its viewing figures have gone down by about 14% each week.
Its pretty much doing the same as SurrealEstate, and that got cancelled.

SyFy are a pale immitation of themselves now, only one decent series (Resident Alien).

Exclusive: Stargate SG-1 creator Brad Wright on his pitch for a revival, hopes for the franchise.

Quote:

Brad Wright doesn't think fans should give up hope just yet, even if it means a long wait ahead. "Long before there were multiple Star Treks on the air at the same time, as there are right now, we had Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis on Friday night at the same time. That's something that has become a bit of a big deal in science fiction television," Wright tells SYFY WIRE. "I can't imagine Amazon not doing something with the franchise, or empowering MGM to do something with the franchise for [them]."

Doesn't seem suited to Syfy somehow, should probably be on Peacock or USA Network only rather than airing it on both, Sky Max are airing it here from 3rd of December.

The ratings for Day Of The Dead aren't good either.

Didn't Syfy used air a lot of Canadian shows from Showcase and Space (now CTV Sci-Fi) who don't appear to have any original dramas now.

fingers crossed. I just wish I could win the euromillions and make it happen for him. You would think that with everything that is going on with Star Trek atm that it would that now is the right time to get another series going.

Ridley Scott has confirmed that live-action TV series of two of his most enduring movies, “Blade Runner” and “Alien,” are fast progressing, with pilots written for both shows.

Speaking with the BBC on Monday, the “House of Gucci” helmer suggested the “Blade Runner” adaptation is being plotted as a 10-episode series: “We [have already] written the pilot for ‘Blade Runner’ and the bible. So, we’re already presenting ‘Blade Runner’ as a TV show, the first 10 hours.”

Scott said “Alien” was getting a “similar” treatment. A pilot is being written along with a bible of what transpires in 8-10 hours of the show.

Charle Cox will return as Daredevil, we just don't know when.

Quote:

It’s official – Charlie Cox will remain the MCU’s Daredevil, Marvel boss Kevin Feige has confirmed. He just won't say when we'll see that return.

During an interview with CinemaBlend, Feige revealed that fan-favourite Charlie Cox will be back as Marvel’s Daredevil:

“If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil,” he said. “Where we see that, how we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen.”
