Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016) Vol 2

There was a testing group of customers to test the most recent big software update with the Series Link+ etc.
In that there was some testing of apps and weirdly Amazon Prime was in the choice of apps for a while but then when it was mentioned on a closed forum the next update removed it so as far back as this summer the Amazon Prime app was kind of on the original TiVo but the testers of the software were not asked to test the app and in fact it got removed.
It was like it was on there by accident.

As mentioned you would have thought the week of A Grand Tour would have been prime time to launch it but with how slow Netflix, BBC and just in general the TiVo has gone you can't blame Amazon if they have said we don't want to be associated with that.

Regarding the Amazon app - Sylviewho on Niallis Blog Page "Virgin Media HD, TiVo & Netflix" said this...

I checked my Tivo box on Wednesday 9th November. Amazon app there alongside all other apps - Netflix etc. Logged into my Amazon Prime account and starting browsing all films, videos etc. Great. Today 11 November no sign of the app! Phoned Virgin, no one there had even heard there was to be an app. Unbelievable!

That says to me that one there was a significant technical problem and two and that is Virgin's customer service will deny it until it is is rolled out Nationwide John but it will be interesting to hear what others think?

Well, that is not surprising, really. Virgin play these contractual matters close to their chests and don't like premature leaks you get on these forums, which must be the bane of their lives. So by discrediting those sources by releasing false information to them is in VM's interests.

All businesses like to manage their news stories, releasing them at a pre-arranged time. They provide the media with information slightly ahead of time with an embargo set for the publication of that information. The media co-operate with these embargoes because they know that they will not be given this information ahead of time if they are breached, putting them at a disadvantage with their competitors.

These forums, however, are a complete free for all and play havoc with the management of business information.

Everyone should treat the stories they read on forums with a large pinch of salt unless they are backed up by company or reputable media sources.

It depends on what the launch actually is.

When CBS Action launched, they couldn't care less, but BT Sport was a whole different matter.

Talking of BT Sport, could we also see Boxnation included in XL in a similar fashion?

Well if Boxnation is added to the XL pack and that is a big if then there would certainly be quite a few who would go for that as it would add good added value to the pack.

Boxnation won't be in XL bud not for a long time last i heard now this is only a rumour is that BT were purchasing boxnation.

The alpha test known issues referenced the Amazon Prime app but the group testing the latest software on the current platform weren't asked to test it....even though it was there in the apps. The alpha test known issues also referenced 4k issues so I'm assuming that was perhaps related to V6 testing.

If you were also involved in the latest testing exercise you'll probably agree that it wasn't exactly smooth running and an app accidentally making it out to the wrong platform isn't a surprise.

It won't be added to XL until January at the earliest. Even if it's not added 20 of these big Frank Warren fight nights will be shown on both Boxnation and BT Sports 1. So in effect XL customers are going to get access to the biggest domestic cards on Boxnation under this deal.

l think you know why MM as l have explained before to you why l cannot see Sky having Netflix on their platform and that is because they have their own streaming service Now TV and they would not want to undermine that IMO.;)
