So we've got Louise as anchor, Clair Balding to do the bike slot. I wonder who the third Cabinero could be.:D

I wonder if the BBC try what they did with Have I got News For You: Rotating presenters.

I can't believe that there would be a shortage of talent the BBC could access who would love to have a go, even on a one off basis.

Bike slot??! No, don't need those death traps on other than to show four wheels are better.

Neither should it become a "car" show rather that light entertainment around cars.

And there is a lot of skill in what the three of them did/do. Driving is just one part of it, driving while being entertaining and "informative" takes a lot of skill.

Could use The Stig to interview "the star".

MG did admit that the viewing figures for it were actually good at the time (bearing in mind it was up against Coronation Street a lot of the time), and the real reason he axed it was simply that he didn't like it.

Michael Grade didn't axe Doctor Who. He put it on an 18-month hiatus in 1985. Although it was never formally cancelled, it was BBC1 controller Jonathan Powell who was most directly responsible, as he failed either to shift the show out of a slot where it was competing with Coronation Street, or indeed to commission any new seasons after the 26th. The writing on the wall was clear to the production team - Nathan-Turner and the rest were pretty sure Survival was going to be the last-ever episode.

By the time all this happened, Michael Grade, whose personal hatred for Doctor Who was well known, was in no position to have influenced the decision, as he was running Channel 4. Indeed, Powell was reputed to have hated his guts, so certainly wouldn't have been likely to take Grade's advice over anything.

Incidentally, while Who was more successful against Corrie than just about anything else the BBC had ever put up against it, it still fared very poorly by its own standards. Its final season more than once failed to attract more than 3 million. For a prime property in prime time, that wasn't good at all.

Many parts of the show still worked, but some of it may have become a bit stale at least to UK audiences who have been watching since 2002, even if it remains fresh to the more recently franchised countries.

I think it had gone stale and despite their buffoonery I thought the three stars were starting to take themselves a bit to seriously and believe the hype around them as this latest sorry saga highlights, won't be sorry to see it go, stopped watching it years ago and getting rid of those three probably wont entice me back.

Breaking news: Dermot O'Leary leaves X Factor and may be in line for Top Gear job.

What a nail biting saga this is becoming...

I agree.

And I know I'll be in a minority of one here, but I would just like a basic "review the car" show without all the "entertainment".

It doesn't interest me whether a car can do 180mph, but it does interest me to know how many suitcases or bags of shopping I can get in the boot.

Non discriminatory joke alert...

Shouldn't that be dyke slot?

Perhaps him as the 3rd Cabinero?
