Just wondering wether a Webstar DPX100 will be able to handle 20meg when it rolls out?

To be honest, that's not THAT bad for 10Meg. At least it beats what I get at 4:30am.

Sat, 14 Apr 2007 03:30:11 GMT

1st 512K took 12297 ms = 41.6 KB/sec, approx 343 Kbps, 0.33 Mbps
2nd 512K took 12921 ms = 39.6 KB/sec, approx 326 Kbps, 0.32 Mbps
3rd 512K took 25985 ms = 19.7 KB/sec, approx 162 Kbps, 0.16 Mbps
4th 512K took 43797 ms = 11.7 KB/sec, approx 96 Kbps, 0.09 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 232 Kbps, 0.23 Mbps

And woo it's my birthday today :D

If that's what you get at 4:30am then you have a fault, and should report it.

Re: 20 Meg From June

HI all, I got this email from a good mate that works for VirginMedia Retentions, and has also reduced my bill by nearly half, so I know he can be trusted!

From: ********@***********.**.**
Date: 10/03/07 13:33:05
To: 'A'
Subject: announcement of 20MB

Hiya A, told ya would keep ya updated. Hope this helps with questions about 20MB BB

Q. Who is being upgraded?
A. All Broadband Size: XL customers will receive the upgrade.

Q. When will the upgrade take place?
A. From May 2007 onwards. It will take place in a phased approach, details to be confirmed.

Q. Will all users be able to get the full 20Mb?
A. No. The majority of customers (85%) will be able to achieve 20Mb if they have the right modem. The remaining 15% of customers will only be able to achieve 16Mb, due to network constraints in their area, details of where to be confirmed.

Q. How will customers know if they have the right modem?
A. Details for customers will be available on our website - and don't worry, we'll make sure you're fully briefed as well.

Q. Will there be a charge for the modem upgrade?
A. Yes, a small charge is likely for most customers who need one. Again, we'll confirm these details.

Q. What happens if a customer doesn't want the modem upgrade?
A. They'll still be able to use their existing modem, they just won't get the full benefit of the speed increase.

Q. What is the upload speed for up to 20Mb broadband?
A. The upload speed for up to 20Mb broadband will be 768kbps.

Q. Where can customers get more information?
A. All customers receiving a letter about the price increase of Broadband Size: XL to £37, will be given a web link to find more information from our website (link to be confirmed).

Hope this is all ok for you all :)

I read these thread with much interest..and it thows a couple of questions up

Im in Romford Essex, and the planned network maintanance had with out a doubt improved the 10meg pipe no end..

so..

A:will i get the 20meg
i have a blue NTL modem..couldnt tell u the model!

B:I have only paid 35 this month..i would have thought 37 would have been taken

C:I read somewhere all of london had been done..well i tell u it hasnt! im still on the 10meg

D:How will i know if ive got the update and how do i update the firmaware in my modem? ive reset it several times..

Any answers would be great!

cheers.:dunce:

Re: 20 Meg From June

I believe the blue one is the Ambit 250, and it should be capable of speeds of up-to 43mbit/s.

Don't complain about being charged less! Everyone on the current 10mbit/s will get the upgrade...

You'll know when you've recieved the update as the modem config will clearly state 20mbit/s instead of the 10mbit/s. All you need to do is restart your modem and you will recieve the upgrade.

so if i restart my modem daily as of the 1st..i`ll get the upgrade for deff? sorry im a speed freak!! the need for speed!! bring on the 50meg!! you know i reckon what they should have done is not told ANYONE about the upgrade and just do it! stuff the £2! they`ll get load of news customers anyway cos ADSL is so poor up ur 16meg max sky toss bags!!

---------- Post added at 15:02 ---------- Previous post was at 15:00 ----------

also if they want £2! they can have it im not complaining! £37 for 20meg..that`ll do me sunshine!

well hasnt customer services gone down rapidly since vm took over!!!!!
decided to ring them with my continuing modem failing problem.....oh dear what a mistake.
i get what sounds like a phillapino girl who is obviously working of a scripted page of basic errors and how too's lol.
explained my errors on modem log and get told that isnt my modem!!!!
tried to explain again and poor girl didnt have a clue and got so frustrated that she cut me off rather than look daft.

Re: 20 Meg From June

Why are VM charging for modem upgrades when we hire the modem in the 1st place, surely if they want us to use their service then they provide the equipment for free or on rental and are included in the price in the 1st place?

This always bugs me

JohnHorb 28-04-2007 14:36

Re: 20 Meg From June

If you ask for a self-install, you may not have to pay for the modem upgrade.
