poor acting, poor script, poor sets, poor cgi, poor, poor, poor!!!

It was better than the second one, simply cause Rico was back! But it was kind of poor.

Lost Boys: The Tribe 7/10

Overall pretty good and still got the vibe the original had plus Corey Haim reprised his role for the film.

I'm waiting for the unrated / uncut version to come out before I watch that one. But nice to know its worth a watch.

Drillbit Taylor

I quite enjoyed it, it was exactly what I expected and a little bit more. Quite a few good laughs too.

7.5/10

The Godfather. 6/10.
The Godfather II. 8/10.

Never seen more than a few minutes of either but had read the book years ago. Felt Diane Keaton let her part down in both films. Pacino and De Niro were both excellent. Minor gripes about certain scenes but otherwise impressed.

Journey to the Centre of the Earth 3D - 7/10 only getting a good score for the 3D elements of the film, otherwise it was not that good.

Dark Knight 10/10 - Almost the best film I think I have ever seen. Started of great and just got better and better. Ledger really did make the Joker scary!

Hugh 25-07-2008 17:31

Easily a 10/10 from me.

Just watched Starship Troopers 3 : Marauder.

Which was better than the second one and had Jolene Blalock in it so can't be all bad :)

Although...

Spoiler:
The Federation finding religion at the end spoiled it for me

But....

Spoiler:
Finally getting to see the marauder powered armour (at least in the film series - as it was in the cartoon) was good

So 5/10

I watched Wall-E tonight, I give it a 4/10, I was really looking forward to it as the adverts have been on for months which made it look really good but personally the adverts before the movie were more fun than the actual movie itself.

The Dark Night 10/10, the only thing is the sound went funny in the last 30 mins so I need to go back and watch it but still a 10/10.

I liked the series, and this film doesn't come close to any of the episodes I watched.

You may think I went a little overboard with the bad score I gave it... But imho, it really was that bad.

The X Files: I Want To Believe

Full opinion in the specific thread.

IMO a lame & seriously disappointing return to the big screen for Mulder & Scully, which is more of a mediocre feature length episode (or perhaps mediocre TV movie) than a big-screen outing worthy of a seven pounds cinema ticket.

I rate it...

Lame, dull, disappointing, & mediocre / 10

WallE - I'd give it nearer a 6. I thought the whole Wall-E concept flawed as well if you needed to clean up earth why not send some Wall-A's down there.
Humans did not seem to learn from the mistake on earth and were busy dumping as much trash into space but where in space were they getting the resource to make such trash.
Cute and my 5yr old loved it. I was happy to enjoy it for what it was which was fun in most parts but as noted above I thought the plot had gaping holes in it.

The Mutant Chronicles

3/10, extremely dissapointed, i had hope that it would be good with so many high profile actors in it but after 20 minutes i was ready to claw my own eyes out, exceedingly bad CGI, very poor acting, all the actors looked quite bored with their roles.

Journey to the centre of the earth (NOT the TV version of 2008, the other one)

6/10, quite enjoyable, bit tacky with cheap CGI though.

John Woos The Killer & Hard Boiled

10/10, classics!

Yeah, hence the low expectations. Having said that, I think it's the first time I've actually seen anything he's been involved with. I can't believe someone actually gave him the money to make not 1, but 2 sequels to it!

District 13: 9/10. It lost 1 point for the subtitles being over the actual picture, instead of in the black bar at the bottom, which made them more difficult to see. That's probably the fault of the channel that showed it [FX], rather than the actual movie though.

If you want to see a really good action movie that isn't all Hollywood special effects, & you don't mind watching a foreign language movie with subtitles [unless you're fluent in French, which I'm not, though I do know enough to have spotted a few errors in the translation], then you should see this movie.

Yeah, bit of a change in career from "Bros" to movie villain, lol.

He was previously in Blade 2, played Nomak. [and of course del Toro used Ron "Hellboy" Perlman in Blade 2 as well]

As you say, he was actually quite good.

Especially if it's a jackie chan movie!

It's dependant on the type of movie for me, slow romance/drama/horror/thriller movies i will watch with subs, same for comedy.

But for action, i do prefer dubs due to wanting to just turn my brain off and enjoy the movie!

For instance the english dubs on dragon dynasty releases are usually quite good.

Doomsday - 8/10

Daft, no plot and where else can you have mad max and robin hood in the same picture? ;)

There is also the game of spotting all the movie references in it ;)

The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas

Hmm.

Depressing / 10

Top notch.

And I defy anyone to sit through the whole thing without shedding at least one tear.

Well, given the rather disgusting & anti-Semitic comments you made back in May, that does not surprise me one bit...

Getting back to the topic at hand...

Judge Dredd

As a Judge Dredd movie... :td:

But, trying to set aside the "Comic Book Guy" inside me, I do quite enjoy it purely as a cheesy SF action movie.

Anyway.

Uncle Buck 8/10, another great from him, wish he was still around :(

Jumpin Jack Flash 5/10 Thought whoopi would be better in this, few lol moments but that's about it.

Perhaps Love (Mandarin)

Quote:

A movie-within-a-movie, featuring a love triangle plot that parallel between several actors' lives. Jealousy, hatred and passion ignited by memories of the past, collide and culminate through the intervention of a seasoned heavenly being, a modern Cupid, who shares their joy and sorrow.
10/10 Loved it.

Secret (Bu neng shuo de. mi mi) 8/10

Another great love story with a few good twists.

Day of the Dead (Based on George A Romero's Day of the Dead) 6/10

Not as good as the previous remake of Dawn of the Dead, was actually hoping it would be in the same style, but still a reasonable modernisation of a pretty naff zombie film (if I'm totally honest, I don't rate Ramero's films anyway, especially after Land of the Dead-boring which showed that while other zombie film makers had taken his ideas and successfully expanded them, Ramero just hadn't).
Starts off a bit pants, the zombies are pretty naff, but it picks up near the end, and there's one bit that made me laugh out loud when the slimy doctor in the base gets, oh shucks you'll have to see for yourself.

8/10, one of jet li's finest.

Iron Man

5/10, mediocore, too much of a family movie.

DeathRace

6/10

I agree, as a movie it's quite enjoyable, but as for the Dredd part:
1. it's a key part of the character that he never, ever takes his helmet off &/or that you never get to see his whole face.

2. Dredd's suposed to be at least 6 foot tall; Stallone's only 5' 9".
---------------

Constantine :8/10. Quite enjoyable.

Taken

Pretty good revenge thriller, about a retired CIA guy out to rescue his daughter after she's kidnapped while on holiday in Paris.

Never thought I'd say this, but... Liam Neeson kicked ass.

7/10

I enjoyed this, despite it having Jack Black in it and the soppy feel-good ending.
