They are both too expensive , take a look at their websites 50% discounts and free gifts such as tablets seems they are both going to extraordinary lengths to attract new customers.

A lot more. They have to pay for bandwidth from the satellite company, and HD channels take 3 to 6 times the bandwidth of SD channels.

Though of course the real answer is "because they can". They set the prices at a level that they judge will maximise revenue, just like VM and every other company does.

That`s for the Premium channels provided by Sky,I`m talking about the `hidden within the bill `charge Virgin tag on. Sky are upfront about their HD charge but Virgin `hide` it in my opinion.

I agree they both charge it because they can. I`d love to see people saying `no Sky/Virgin we wont pay this extra charge please cancel my HD channels`. They wont of course which is why they keep charging it!

And yes I know Virgin have a HD charge within their bundles before someone comes on here to remind me!

No they don't. Where did you hear that?

I think it's just an assumption people have, as Sky charge you then VM must hide it in their prices.

I haven't compared the XL pack to the equivalent Sky+HD to see how much of a difference there is?

Similar for me but the break up (per their letter) is as follows:

Sky Family £3 (Inc. £0.50 for HD)
Sky Sports (1&2) £1
Sky Movies (1&2) £0.50
MUTV HD £1

Total £5.50 - puts me up to about £44 without BB & 'phone

If you mean VM and are talking about MUTV, then the answer is no. I took Sky's offer recently and that's overlapping with my VM contract which expires in a couple of months.

If you're not talking about MUTV on VM, then I need more info.

Neither, there (supposedly) isn't a clear channel available for the south side of Emley Moor, so no reason to advertise a local tv franchise for the area or to add the rest of South Yorkshire to the Sheffield or Leeds areas. The whole concept of local tv is flawed.

VM only matches the licensed terrestrial area of local tv, as far as that is possible.

Good question, UC. I don't think the testing means anything in particular as far as working out how many channels might launch imminently. Publicising the testing activity is just a tease.

Yes - I have also seen them testing.

As of posting we will no longer give an play by play on how many channels are testing the last two days was just to give everyone an idea on what we are seeing.

We will reveal when we see one or all of them being given real channel names.

---------- Post added at 12:56 ---------- Previous post was at 12:54 ----------

What has been given real names so far?

-Nat Geo Wild HD (Set for April launch - rumoured to be set for April 30th launch).
-Arabic Hafla (No set launch date).

Yes Yesterday is part of UKTV.

Virgin has got all UKTV HD Channels.

We can see UKTV axing Eden in the next few years.

-Eden will be reuse for Really +1
-Eden +1 will be reuse for Drama +1
-Eden HD will be reuse for Yesterday HD

With all Eden shows moving to Watch or Dave.

Base on the listing for Eden they only broadcast about 7 shows per week.

I can also see Good Food being axed when the license to use the name is up. Scripps who own 50% of Good Food and 100% of The Food Network do not need both. With The Food Network being on all platforms i can see that being the one that survives.

BBC Three will not move online until 2016.

a516 is reporting that BBC Three will remain as a regular TV service this year, with any move online now deferred to early 2016.

Well it won't work with my android phone, it's a One Plus One, and Virgin class it as a modified mobile, even though it runs Lollipop. Unable to use Virgin Mobile TV app.

Is this launching today?? Doesn't sound any different than the app we have already as the new services won't be available yet?

Do we know when Virgin Media and Viacom are signing next deal so that we may get missing MTV channels.

Virgin Media are going an survey about TV side and found this:

Given Sky's intransigence on the price, this might be a VM solution that most would approve of.

Just been told in last hour:

new app will just allow access to files saved in the virgin media cloud, the other on demand/record functions wont be available straight away.

Great! The launch of a Virgin Media 'Coming Soon' app!

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

Introducing Virgin Media Cloud
Virgin Media Cloud is our cloud storage service, which lets you log on wherever you are to store, protect and share your personal documents and access them using your mobile*, PC or Tablet*.

Your content can be accessed from any device (PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Phone 8* or the browser) and is supported by a wide range of Apps*.
Access your photos, video and documents instantly from your mobile*, PC, Mac or Tablet* and share them straight from the Cloud by email, Facebook and Twitter.
Protect and automatically back up your content** on Virgin Media Cloud for complete peace of mind. This happens in the background when you are on wifi so you don’t need to do anything.
It’s easy to safely share your content across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Email and SMS.
Stream your videos and music wherever you are, all your need is an Internet connection
* We're currently working on Windows Phone 8 app support for Virgin Media Cloud - watch this space!
** Content backup is dependent on device.

That's all it is storage, so don't be confused this other app is something different

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

To me it just looks like a dropbox/google drive thing? And an expensive one at that!

What has been added to TiVo today is a TV client for the Cloud storage. So you can now access your files on TiVo as well as computers and mobile devices.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

Thats exactly what it is and very expensive for extra storage. Absolutely nothing to do with tv or tivo recordings. Just a cloud based storage for your own personal content.

Without being very negative ...why would i want to look at my photos on my tivo??? what is the point in a tivo app for the cloud??

i thought it was a new app for tvanywhere and was hoping id be able to watch recordings on it or better yet 3G streaming for channels on my phone...

how disappointing!

i thought i was missing something but come back to see i wasnt the only one.

So is this functionality of files from cloud storage from Tivo to view anywhere actually coming?

just re-read MB update and see the * sign for "coming soon", feel like Picard in that picture above

For some people, it may be the easiest way to display them on their TV?

Which begs the question, what kinds of files are supported? Video? Music? Photos?

I would like to know the same.

It would be a massive selling point for VM if it happens. The restrictions that MRS was saddled with will have to have been addressed though, otherwise it will be, like MRS, pretty useless.

Aye i suppose. Uploading a video of myself dancing about wearing a mask and then watching it seconds later on my tivo may be mildly amusing for a short while...if videos are supported!

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

Well on twitter they said it will be available across all platforms, so its confusing, has the virginmedia cloud been updated to include TiVo, and their is no other app, or a stand alone app???

paultrademark 23-04-2015 17:46

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

Theres an app on TiVo now that allows you to sign in and view your files on the cloud!

Is that it? Or will the functionality work the other way and allow you to view recordings on the TiVo on a PC/Mobile Device?

TAZMANUK 23-04-2015 17:49

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

At the moment its just TiVo app that does the same thing as drop box, its been out months nothing new, apart from TiVo platform now had it.

I thought we would see something new like when hitting record option to record to cloud so you have it in the mlove as with picture etc, #not
