More 4 HD is in the pipeline and it wouldn't surprise me if Sky News HD appeared before BBC News HD starts.

More4HD was a Sky exclusive, im guessing that exclusivity ends when they get Film4HD.

Sky News HD will probably appear before BBC News HD as I would guess that BBC News HD will be the last of the new BBC HD channels to launch.

You know, I have been having similar dreams for ages. I have been hoping for VM to absorb both Smallworld Cable and WightFibre to form one large company and have a largely unlimited list of channels for us all to enjoy!

Discovery set to launch two-hour timeshift channel of TLC on Monday, 16th September.

It is not yet known if Virgin will launch the channel.

Also, I imagine that Sky will suddenly want Sky News HD on VM just before BBC News HD starts, to steal a march on them.

I was told about the 5 Later discussions at a "do" I was at by a member of the VM management team.

Don't know anything else about it, not even what the channel is about.

I imagine it will be similar to the Channel 4 service "4Seven", or perhaps a more adult themed service.

The name of the channel suggests to me that it might be a part time evening/night service. This begs the question as to whether Channel 5 are going to eventually launch their daytime childrens channel "Milkshake".

I doubt that it will, +2 channels have only ever been on Sky as placeholder channels to reserve their place on the EPG. Such measures aren't neccessary on VM and +2 variants have never been added to the VM EPG in the past.

I remember reading that More4 HD was only exclusive to SKY for 6 months. More4 HD launched on SKY in February so maybe Virgin viewers will see the channel arrive within 2 weeks?

Could be onto something, I think they already have the rights to do a Milkshake channel, so maybe they'll split the bandwidth day/night like BBC do with CBBC/BBC Three, etc.

Yes, that's what I was thinking, either that or the "later" refers to watching timeshifted Channel 5 programmes, in the same way as 4Seven.

Btw, a placeholder for 5 Later has now appeared on Freeview.

Interesting, I didn't know that.

No mention was made of Milkshake during the conversation about 5 Later, but that doesn't mean it won't be coming.

I do think it's very likely as it's apparent that they already have VOD infrastructure, programming, branding and a broadcasting licence for the Milkshake channel.

In addition, Channel 5 now have space to broadcast it on Freeview now that they have reclaimed their capacity from Top Up TV (who no longer need it after the cessation of their premium sports offering).

It has been described as only "expected" to appear on satellite. Freesat won't be a problem, but Channel 5 will have to find an SD EPG slot if they want it to go onto Sky.

I'll try and find out some more info. If anybody's interested.

Edit: According to Terry Duffelen from Channel 5, it will be similar to 4Seven and no start date has been decided upon.

I imagine that they are trying to sort out contracts with all platforms before making a decision.

Yes, it got a bit heady there didn't it? I am sure that speculation will be rife again shortly with the next bouquet of channels expected in September!

As long as Sky Atlantic/HD is one of the new channels (as I am now sure it will be), then I will be a happy bunny indeed.

As I cannot be bothered to go back through pages, are there any planned rebrands of SKY Movies during September? There's a film on this weekend that I want to watch, but unless there is a rebrand in September I won't bother adding it just for 30 days.

If I was Northern & Shell, I would say that Milkshake would air daily as a individual channel from 6am-6pm and timeshare with 5* (6pm-6am) on all platforms. I would also launch a Milkshake +1 and a 5* +1 on Sky, Virgin and Freesat. I would use any space left over to launch 5Later as a 24-hour channel on its own.

Moviemix has terrible picture quality and terrible programming. 4:3 aspect ratio streched out to 16:9 at times.

In my humble opinion, SONY Movies would be a much better addition.

If Sony did buy an Freeview slot it would have been an higher channel number as Channel 32 is run by an channel called 'Big Deal' who also own Babestation - they started broadcast as Game Network.:blush:

The WiFi box is almost identical in appearance the only cosmetic difference is the WPS button on the front.

Yes 3D included with the exception of movies and sport.Probably the new WiFi box , they are going out for all new installs now , well done mate. The 3D will be the likes of David Attenborough documentaries etc.

I've just watched this Tuesdays Sky+ recording of Ray Donovan and there was no 'Only on Sky' under the Sky Atlantic logo during the ad breaks this week , this was there on every other weeks recording.

Was chatting to a VM tech working on a local wall box this morning who has done some cable maintenance in my place over the years - he says that at least 10 channels are to launch in September; make of that what you will... :)
