The advert came from Universal - unfortunately it looks like the 'HD' bit of the logo wasn't picked up either by Universal themselves or when it was added to the On Demand promo channel at VM

Could it not be that Universal are to start adding catchup content onto the VM OD service as an advert on the Sky catchup website indicated this was to be added to Skys OD catchup.

Can't really speculate on something that hasn't been announced - saying that I wouldn't expect a promo to advertise something until it either available or has a confirmed launch.

VM need to give us more choice and flexibility in what we can have and what we want to pay for. Strangely, it feels like the model of channel packages has taken a step backward for the consumer. I prefered the old Sky options where you would pick and choose channel bundles.

We need complete flexibility with channels, on demand, pay per view and subscribed online streaming.

I agree about lack of flexibility...it does seem backward for customers..but good for the companies

So not surprised

I'm sensing a presence in the room with me. Has anyone recently lost an uncle or older family member whose name starts with a P? He's telling me footballs not going very big for free. It's a bit of a cryptic message but I assume he means BT sports is not going in the XL package. Now my wifes in the room with me, shaking her head telling me to get away from the computer. This is getting spooky :p:

Confirmed: Virgin was 'moving stuff about' on Monday Night.

You may have seen the following over on DS Forum:

An Virgin Media insider has tonight reveal that Virgin was 'moving stuff about' on Monday Night.

I do not know how many did move but I can confirmed that HISTORY has now moved to an new broadcasting stream*.

*I only found that out due to having to reboot my V Box. It work fine but you need to reboot every time Virgin remove an channel.

This really annoys me about VM, they are always moving channels around, why don't they leave them alone.

It's not moving EPG numbers, it's channels streams.

Which makes me think they may start using MPEG-4 streams for TiVO users soon, especially with the news of them having a new contractor who are going to manage MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 streams at Headends.

For most people that means recordings will take up less space!

2 new channels have launched.

Both of them BBC red button channels of which one is the HD variant. They have launched on 991 & 994(HD).

The HD channel just has a coming soon slate up whereas the SD is broadcasting some sort of wildlife programme.

I would hazard a guess at most likely preparation for the upcoming multi-streams for Glastonbury and Wimbledon.

Virgin in talks for Lovefilm and Netflix?

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-0...-nears-1-.html

"Liberty Global doesn’t see Virgin Media as a “turnaround” story and wants to “build scale” rather than change, Chief Executive Officer Mike Fries said last month. It doesn’t plan to compete over sports rights or production, and it’s in talks to add streaming services like Netflix Inc. (NFLX) and Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN)’s Lovefilm to the platform, as more TV viewers sign up to the paid services, which are mostly archives of TV and film.

“The content disadvantage Virgin has is they don’t even really make a lot of money now by reselling content from others,” said Stuart Gordon, a media analyst at Berenberg Bank in London. “But they are competing very happily as being the fiber option in the U.K.”

All platforms barring the CRB are now down to one red button stream.

So I'd expect the BBC are doing the extra Summer content in the same way as the Olympics i.e. temp channels rather than hidden red button streams.

This I did not know, kind of makes connected red button seem more appealing haha

More than likely this is in prep for Wimbledon. At least it makes the streams recordable on Virgin's PVR's.

Was added by 1am last night.

Channel 991 is broadcasting the same steam as Freeview Channel 301.
Channel 994 is broadcasting the same steam as Freeview Channel 303 (I think).

I think the following may happen:

A) An Extra Red Button steam will be added to Channel 992 soon.
B) As the HD Red Button Channel is just for this summer maybe BBC HD will relaunch later this year,

Why did Virgin put BBC Red Button on Channels 991 to 994 for when Channels 183 to 186 is free?

Do that mean that more channels from Viacom will launch on Virgin before the end of Summer???

THIS POST IS NOT THE VIEWS OF VIRGIN MEDIA IN ANYWAY.

I'm guessing because they are designed to be accessed through the Red Button, rather than channels in their own right - so really it doesn't matter where they go and VM would prefer they are out the way of anything else

I'm very confident we will see all channels on all platforms eventually.

It's not about seeing things as they are, but think ahead and how the lay of the land will change dramatically.

If there are alternative ways to look at making more money, Sky will do it. Even they will eventually realise when they've dried up the new subs market for exclusive channels.

Sky is in the market of selling TV channels (and maybe boxes?) and they will do whatever they can do that to as many people as possible - even if that means across different platforms.
