All this sort of started in 2002 and since then they focused a lot more on their academy and ensuring players like Inestia were considered the future of their team as opposed to big, strong, fast players.

Guardiola arrived as the first generation of this new era Barcelona team came to their peak. However it was the product of 10 years of work. He had all that going for him as well as a bigger budget in a less challenging league.

I think he is still a great manager. His team play good football and it takes a certain strength to cope with the pressure he was under. You may have the best players in the world but you still need to manage them. However we have no idea how Guardiola will do outside Barcelona, a team he knew well, a culture he understood and the organisation he grew up in.

Importantly we haven't seen how he would cope in a set-up and scenario that would meet him at Arsenal. He has one real job in management and it wasn't one that had the challenges he would face in England or at Arsenal.

Pep enforced a breath of fresh air. Barcas system was in place agreed but it was slacking. Pep come in and tightened things up.

You can try though. I'm going to remind the world of 2008 until it happens again. in 08 Boro done it here with Wenger and co. Playing style that is.

The problem is too many players have sat on their laurels and Mancini has not adapted or evolved his side enough to cope with the different tactical rigours that come with being League champions and being in the CL.

Tottenham have been accused of "insulting people's intelligence" by attempting to justify the chanting of the word "Yid" by their supporters.

In a statement, Spurs said their fans used the term as a "defence mechanism" against anti-Semitism from rivals.

Had to be an upside for you lot one day ;)

It's a good result for them (Urrgghhh, I feel dirty now. :erm: ) and if Wanyama is worth £25 million the Forster must be worth at least £50 million.

At least the rest of the SPL are making sure you aren't too tired for European games by going out of business and giving you weekends off.

Alan Pardew will again attempt to strike a deal for Andy Carroll come summer.

He's also said he'd be interested in Kevin Nolan

What Kevin Nolan could add to our ranks is beyond me, I thought the reason we flogged him in the first place was because we had a Midfielder a class apart from him in Cabaye. We still do, Tiote, Cabaye and the oncoming Anita are a class above Nolan so that makes little sense for me.

Yes l agree it would be very much a backward step to bring in two extremely average players who would add nothing to Newcastle's team.

Carroll will sign for us permanently providing we stay up, no ifs or but's about it, the deal is signed and binding apparently. What would Nolan add, goals from midfield perhaps...

Perhaps Mikes going to cash in on some one or perhaps the club lacks the ambition to push on from last seasons successful campaign.

I felt that tackle, so l hope it hurt JT.

Sorry Arthur but l would not wish any malice on my worst enemy.

I feel sorry for his team mates. For every training session Terry misses they'll be wondering which of their wives he's sniffing round;)

Over the years l have seen John Terry give out some really nasty tackles on opponents, its not being nasty its being honest.

He wouldn't last five minutes in the days of Vinnie Jones.

What is it slate John Terry as much as possible year? I don't condone what he's done but it doesn't change the fact he's one of the best defenders of his time and a guy that leaves it all on the pitch.

Usmanovs slowly buying more and more shares. He'll reach 30% soon. To some that means nothing but the fact is it will cause unrest. Arsenal need to sort it out. Stans under pressure. The board too. Our manager or real CEO is lost. Theres no balance to progress Arsenal in all areas.

Arsenal have however let it be known to the AST that theres a football plan. hey ho here we go with FFP and new sponsorship deals. Ivan talks crap.

I think Wenger is fine. His achievements in contrast to the money spent is one of the best in world football. The question is if he is replaced what is the benchmark of achievement for the next manager? Winning the league? Expectations need to be re-examined but despite football's drastically changed landscape since Chelsea's Russian windfall they haven't been.

Arsenal fans still see Arsenal as the team of The Invincible era and will defend that view as being one motivated by ambition, but ambition shouldn't cloud realism.

A critical question that is missed with the demands for Wenger to go and calls for a new manager is what do we actually expect from them?

we do not have to spend a billion to compete. the vast amount that teams have spent is due to different direction. our direction can see us compete but waste has to be kept to a minimum. the amount of players not performing is just pathetic. these players are on huge wages. Wengers persisting with something thats not working.

What would count as working? People keep asserting that we don't need a billion to compete but for the most part that seems to be the case. Chelsea and City dominate after spending billions. United are sort of an outlier but they do have considerably greater income as well as continued difficulty in getting quality players in. Then there is us. The 4th best funded team in the league finishing 4th or 3rd.

I like the idea of being able to compete without spending much but it seems to be wishful thinking rather than something born out of reality...

so your telling me that players that on 50-80k now offer little and we have to accept that and to get more you have to spend much much more? thats wrong. the money spent is such a vast amount the way you put across what you say above is like saying 50-80k is nothing.

No those contracts should obviously be better managed. I am referring to the overall picture. We're the 4th best funded team, less than that in some respects, and we finish 4th or 3rd in most cases.

What would the expectations be of a new manager?

maximise spend for a start. would we of finished lower than 3rd last season if we had the other half of the squad performing? could we have won something?
