Some customers were chosen to trial it Vince and dependent how that went then the staggered full rollout would highly likely begin after that.

It was a expansion of the trial and not the roll out:)

Just to repeat...

No decision has been made on rolling out the software yet. The decision isn't made until the day before it actually happens. (What would be the point of a trial where you ignored some of the results?)

It will then take a few weeks for the software to get to everyone.

Remember its a new company, and they may want to try a national rollout so they can display Opera tv, Netflix (With user Profiles) HTML5 Applications before the change freeze. To do this all Tivos must have been upgraded to be able use it

On every software update, a proportion of boxes fail to update correctly. If they were all done at the same time, some people would be left without a working service for weeks until a technician could get to them. That's why rollouts are always done in a controlled way.

It's 6 or 7 weeks to the change freeze. That's enough time to do a controlled rollout and more.

I prefer not to say until it's done in case there's a problem or late change of plan.
Anyway, today's lucky victims are:

Carlisle
Coventry
Dundee
Edinburgh
Exeter
Hemel
Lewisham
Warwick

In Edinburgh. Box on this morning and updated. Quick go before work, speedie. Some cutdown menu options, very good! Will test Iplayer and suggestions out later!

Both my boxes in Dundee updated successfully. Not got time to play with the update this moring but first impressions are that I like the new font but I don't like the colour scheme. However as I am colour blind my opinion on colour is not to be trusted.

As a Hibs fan I absolutely despise the colour scheme but generally much slicker. Like what they've done with 'my shows' to save the endless scrolling for something that takes your fancy. Also, Netflix having profiles is a godsend so my suggestions aren't filled with kids Lego programs now and can now watch series at different pace from your Mrs without getting hit by spoilers as you try find your episode.

Low, based on past experience. Teesside tends to get stuff early because it's a nice medium size and doesn't have any network oddities.

As far as I can remember, the regions that were updated today have never had a trial or been first for roll-out before. Everyone gets their turn eventually.

Err... here:
Faster
Purpler
New categories in My Shows
"What To Watch Now" (which to my mind is a list of programmes you've missed the start of!)
Supports HTML5 applications
Lots of bug fixes

I got my update yesterday. Generally, I like the new look although I would take issue with 'faster'. There don't seem to be any noticeable speed improvements - at least none that can be measured without the use of carefully calibrated scientific equipment.

When I submitted my report on the new update some weeks ago, I reported that it was much faster than before.

Since, then, it's slowed down again! Not to the levels previously, but it was a disappointment that some screens take too long to load.

Not sure if this is a fault of the software, signal strength, congestion or what but I hope it improves.

I would agree with you that I reserve judgement on the performance of some of the basic functions.

At times, they seem faster than before but also significantly slower sometimes. A restart of the TiVo seems to bring performance benefits.

Well, purple is my favourite colour so looking forward to the new colour scheme!

Anyway nothing in Biggleswade just yet but I imagine we're a small-ish area for VM so may have to wait a little bit longer for attention! :p

Totally agree with this, I thought when I used it at first it was a wee bit quicker, but I was playing around with it today and tbh there is no real difference in speed at all, in fact I tried to load Netflix and I could have went for a stroll around the block and be back before it loaded up! Not very good Virgin!

I don't think anyone is jumping to conclusions Den mate, but the facts are there, as the above posts prove. Hopefully it's just teething problems, but I was expecting a much faster/slicker TiVo experience, but sadly it just hasn't happened.

So, the TiVo randomly rebooted earlier, right in the middle of watching a recording. The box then sat around updating for a while eventually presenting me with so much purple. The jury is out on the colour scheme at the moment. The purple on the menu is acceptable, but please, who thought up the deep red progress bar on a lilac background? Lilac is never going to be cool. :p:

Most of Barnsley (Barnsley, Bradford, Castleford, Doncaster, Halifax, Wakefield)
Bristol
Glasgow (now includes Irvine)
Peterborough
Teesside

New update here in Teesside, looks nice and modern

---------- Post added at 08:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:05 AM ----------

I'm a little surprised that when you press TV Guide whilst in Home or My Shows the whole screen still goes black for a second

---------- Post added at 08:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:09 AM ----------

The high contrast progress bar is still the old shape with the rounded edges and looks slightly better than the new purple one with red progress line.

Ha, ha! The TIVO is still a big improvement over the other boxes available IMO. It's only the speed that is the problem, but the advantages outweigh this little disadvantage.

I don't get the speed issue with TIVO. Channel changes are pretty quick and so if getting to your recorded shows. The only time i ever find it a bit slow is On demand stuff which I don't often use.

Maybe im lucky... or not overly picky lol

That's the subject of much debate. I think Sheffield and Rotherham will get Sheffield; Leeds and Kirklees will get Leeds. The rest of Yorkshire is TBD.

Ideally, all of the South Yorkshire areas should get Sheffield as the official DTT coverage area will also overlap with parts of VM Barnsley & Doncaster areas. Similarly, I would have thought that most, if not all, of the West Yorkshire VM areas should get the Leeds service. West Yorkshire being more difficult in that other local services are planned.

Interesting that the former Telewest Barnsley area is now being upgraded with former NTL areas in West Yorkshire rather than the traditional Telewest neighbouring areas of Sheffield and Rotherham. I guess that's to ease the load on the local tech. teams dealing with problematic upgrades.

The design is better and it isn't lilac, which has to be a plus. Sadly the rest of the high contrast pages are a little too black for many people.

There are no seperate NTL or Telewest areas now.

When is Manchester being given the new TiVo update? We still have the dated red EPG on our box.

30mins before half an hour after it's done! In other words no one can say at the moment.

Fixed in what way?

edit: Ah - I've just found your identical post from a year ago. You want passthrough. Fair point.

Everywhere should be done before Christmas.

Like the info screen suggests! If you want to upscale everything then you can or if you want the original resolution then that is possible also. At present I'm forced to upscale all SD content.

SD looks better upscaled though. If you left it at its original resolution it wouldn't look very good at all.

It depends on which has the best up-scaling functionality; Tivo or the person's TV, or even an AV amp if they are feeding the signal through one.

Indeed, that would be why I referred to them as former areas.

I presume Knowsley will be one of the last areas to be updated as per usual.

Like most places, it'll probably be somewhere in the middle. Nowhere is "last per usual".

Still think it would be nice if the TiVo had an option to do overscan trimming on upscaled SD. Maybe I'm the only one who wants to watch HD without the edges cut out *and* SD without ragged borders...

My TIVO failed yesterday, all "channels unavailable", HD box upstairs was OK.

It took 20 minutes to get through to someone on 150, they did a reboot and all was OK. But only for an hour or so, then the fault reappeared.

25 more minutes to get through to someone on 150, another reboot, and all was well again.

Not happy.

Everyone seems to think their area is "last as per usual" yet nobody has ever claimed they're "usually first"....

People in Crawley could legitimately claim that. They tend to get picked as the only very small Knowsley region.

Nope, they haven't got it yet. HQ is full of accountants, lawyers etc. Product development is done elsewhere.

Actually den was in Pilot 2, so nowhere near first. (And you're on an old version den - we need to update your box again)

Teesside got the update Thursday, all of my friends and family have Tivo apart from one who has Sky, that's 21 households, cable is big here. And all of them hate the new colour scheme, my sister has changed to the alternative scheme. I don't mind it but I know what they mean, it kinda looks cheap or very basic?
Anyone else?

Totally agree, I think it's crap tbh, no speed improvements whatsoever.

They have certainly dropped the red colours usually associated with the Virgin brand. A sign of things to come perhaps?

Is it the high contrast alternative display, for individuals with visual disabilities ? Found in settings. The ui goes black and white

I personally love the new colours and think overall it looks cleaner and sharper and a lot classier.

I have three TiVos and they are all quicker since the update. Both mini guide and the main menus. Not a lot but enough to notice while navigating.
