It's the Sky users' thread Den; I don't think it's wrong to let them carry on in their state of delusion :D

Sky always excelled in TV channels compared to VM; only an idiot would deny that. But as for the provided set top box and broadband, then Sky lag behind VM IMHO.

Interestingly, now that VM have just added a bunch more HD channels, Sky's TV offering is only a little ahead of VM, compared to a few months ago when Sky offered a lot of channels that VM users wanted.

In the same way, Sky have recently caught up with VM with regard to on On Demand and catch up services.

I don't mean to be offensive, but the people who that say Sky is the best at everything, are just as stupid as the people who say that VM are the best at everything.

Any reason for the Mickey Mouse comment, everyone else on here seems capable of having great debates without resorting to petty name calling of other succesful businesses.

Why not try it yourself, it may help you stay around longer this time.

Your ballanced view is non existent. This is why I read and value posts from people like MM and Chad, but put no creadance in anything that you post. It's a shame, because there may even be some valid points in them, but they just get buried in the obvious Sky bias.

VM have the luxury with their STB's that it doesn't require a seperate Internet connection and is available on non PVR boxes that said I would say Sky now probably has a more comprehensive range of catchup content , VM possibly has the edge when it comes to library content although Sky's is increasing all the time.

Neither. It will be a Sky Movies channel rebadged. Modern Greats, Classic and Indie are merging into two new channels (Greats and Select), freeing up a slot for Sky Movies Disney.

Have noticed that Virgin have been advertising Broadband without a landline, Sky pushing hard on this will give them the opportunity to push the fact that you don't need a landline or broadband to get catch up/on demand from VM

It would be a wise move from virgin however what impact will it have? On Demand and especially catch up TV has been available on Virgin / Telewest for 8 years. If SKY customers didn't leave in their thousands when SKY had no on demand or catch up, why would they leave now? It's not like virgin haven't been shouting about free catch up for years and years now.

I agree Chad but I don't think they have pushed how different their offering is. Both Sky and Virgin are struggling to attract more TV customers, however Skys triple play penetrarion is about 38% wheras VM is about 68% so Sky have plenty to go in terms of driving more value out of their existing base than VM.

So VM need to drive more single product stuff and cross sell in the future and that means pointing out that you don't need a phone line for VM Broadband which thay have starting to advertise but also that on demand and catch up don't need a phone line or broadband. These opprotunities are unique to VM so I reckon they should push them as cheap entry level packages.

In addition to joining the On Demand service on Sky+, Channel 4 is also the first terrestrial network to offer its channels and programmes on Sky Go, Sky’s award-winning internet and mobile TV service. Sky Go users can now enjoy Channel 4 and More4 live on their laptop, smartphone, or tablet, with E4 and Film4 to follow shortly.
In addition, a range of classic Channel 4 shows will be available within the On Demand section of Sky Go. And for Sky customers who upgrade to Sky Go Extra, those Channel 4 shows can be downloaded to watch offline, so they can enjoy TV on the move even when they’re not connected to the internet.

Still cant watch a full F1 qualifying or full race thou as only 24 hours. So if you buy it at 1pm Saturday then it runs out 1pm Sunday so you miss the race. You have to choose one or the other. Would be alot better if they made it 36 or 48 hours for £9.99

I'm not Sky's biggest fan, but I think they made a smart move launching Now TV, and if the price and options are right for Atlantic shows, it won't bother me using the service.

All VM customers are effectively paying Sky anyway by the fact that some of their channels are standard on the service, though not sure at what service level Sky One and Living start on VM.

Well, from what I've read (so not necessarily true), they screwed Tivo over, 10 years ago, so that they could launch Sky+, which left Tivo free for VM to partner with. I think that counts. :D

Actually one good thing Sky did was to start to show US shows close to the US air date and several channels have followed their lead.

And Sky have lead the way in HD, forcing VM to try to catch up.

I'm taking it that you have the DRX595 Non PVR when you say multiroom box if so check the software version you are on for both boxes , the latest version currently being rolled out to customers is R006.058.60.00P however this is currently being done in batches so keep your eye out.

R006.058.60.00P will bring you the following ,

On your multiroom non PVR you'll receive the 8 line EPG like your PVR and an ECO mode setting , this box already does DD over HDMI.

On your 2TB you'll receive the ECO mode and DD over HDMI

The STB software is constantly evolving so watch this space. :)

Sigh..I meant the hypocrisy of changing wedding, to love. Most cases it doesn't start out that way, and often it doesn't end that way :)

As Tina says..with weddings "what's love got to do with it"

As with wedding/love, all fuelled by lust, brain chemicals or feelings of obligation, which are all subject to change So I can't be held liable

Not one of SKY's best acquisitions. It was fairly niche on the BBC in the first place. This is the kind of result that may see SKY trying to buy the rights to even more shows from the start, rather than trying to jump on board 5 or 6 seasons in.

BT wins right to take Sky Sports price ruling to court of appeal.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2013...ts-price-bskyb

Quote:

BT has won the right to take a ruling by the competition regulator that stopped BSkyB being forced to offer Sky Sports 1 and 2 to rival TV services at a discount of up to 23% to the court of appeal.

Last summer, the Competition Appeal Tribunal handed down a scathing judgment concluding that the basis of media regulator Ofcom's decision to force BSkyB to cut the amount it charges rivals to air Sky Sports channels was "unfounded".

BT challenged this decision at the court of appeal and on Friday was given the right to lodge an appeal. The court granted BT the right on the grounds that the CAT failed to investigate the issue of the level of discounts that BSkyB claimed it gave rivals on the ratecard price to air its sports channels.
