Because all the other multi-million pound companies are very public with their contracts and dealings while Virgin only communicate in darkened rooms using interpretive dance to convey their offer in case the room has been bugged and Little Jimmy on Digital Spy gets the scoop.

Summary of appeal

Quote:

NOTICE OF APPEAL UNDER SECTION 317(6) OF THE COMMUNICATIONS ACT 2003
CASE No: 1156/8/3/10
In summary, the principal grounds of appeal on which Virgin Media relies are as follows:
1. OFCOM has failed to consider relevant matters in deciding to exclude Sky Sports 3 and/or 4 from
the scope of the WMO obligation or, alternatively, any such consideration was inadequate and/or
incorrect.
2. OFCOM has failed to impose any control on the wholesale prices that Sky may charge for the supply
of Sky Sports 1 and/or 2 where they are bundled with Sky Sports 3 and/or 4 and/or any of Sky’s
Core Premium Movie channels.
3. The methodology adopted by OFCOM to calculate the maximum prices for the supply of Sky Sports
1 and Sky Sports 2 under the WMO obligation is flawed.
4. OFCOM has made an error in the mechanism which applies to calculate the maximum prices under
the WMO obligation following changes in Sky’s own retail prices

The appeals in Cases 1156/8/3/10, 1157/8/3/10, 1158/8/3/10 and 1159/8/3/10 were heard together between 9 May 2011 and 15 July 2011. Judgment is pending.

Personal opinion here, but I doubt they will launch on cable. I'd imagine Berkett would say something like "why should we pay for them when the SD channels are mostly studio based and good quality and wouldn't benefit from HD," or something like that.

They don't need to test anything. The BBC broadcast Wimbledon in 3D this summer on the BBC HD channel. So if the Olympics will be in 3D too it will probably be on the same channel.

VM has plenty of 3D content in VOD. There is no need for a linear channel at the moment.

There are 3D movies, free 3D for XL TV customers, Discovery 3D content and recently added was extreme sports in 3D.

Earlier in the summer the BBC broadcast the Wimbledon finals in 3D and Eurosport had the Roland Garos in 3D.

Sounds like plenty of 3D to me :-)

Also there are almost 30 HD channels now, so stop complaining that there is no content.

Because customers have a choice if they want to upgrade to Skys Premium HD channels package for a extra £7 which then makes it 31 HD channels.

Soz m8 was kinda a joke at the garbled phone post. Story seems to be HD boy/Martine (what the heck is that wee flower thing below your name!!) saying ITV hd channels and Classic movies HD will launch soon. Also think someone said Sky anytime will beef up it's content this week:)

You are trying to surmise what channels will come when there has not really been any concrete evidence apart from a few snippets where they could just say that to keep you happy.

The Ultimate Fighter moves to FX HD.

FX has now got the UK rights to The Ultimate Fighter and will broadcast it every Thursday night at 11pm on both FX and FX HD on Virgin Channels 157 and 158.

As we are paying Sky for their premium channels, Sky Sports & Movies, plus the additional HD fee. Why can't we get Sports in 3D, or live sports on a smart phone ??

Any ideas ??

As they were not part of the package and also Sky want to keep them exclusive to Sky customers.

I hope we get Sky Sports HD3 and Sky Sports HD4 in year after the CAT judgement is made. The appeal was made in June 2010

Sky are always going to want to keep some of their key channels exclusive while I agree Sky should give VM subscribers access to Sports HD3 and HD4 I can't blame them for keeping Sky3D and Atlantic as exclusive.

gcampbell 19-09-2011 19:13

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

Are they keeping Atlantic exclusive or are VM just not prepared to meet the asking price?

Given how many HBO programmes won emmys yesterday VM should just bite the bullet and get it, even if only in SD - so many quality programmes are being denied their customers.

HD Boy 19-09-2011 19:27

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

Sky are asking high price supposedly and i am not interseted 3D So sky 3D would be no use to me

This is what we will be getting
Quote:

We're very excited that to be launching Sky Anytime (& Anytime+) on our on demand service in the next few months.
It will carry programs from the sky channels that are available on Virgin Media TV:
Sky1, Sky Living, Sky Arts, Sky News (available to XL TV Customers),
Sky Movies (for Sky Movies Collection customers)
Sky Sports (for Sky Sports Collection customers)
There will be hundreds of TV Shows and Movies available at launch, and that will grow in the weeks and months following launch

I'm afraid I don't have an exact launch date just yet, but as soon as we do we'll let everyone know.

Hi,

Just wondering if someone might clarify somehting for me. I know this seems to be a bit of hot debate but i am a paying sky subscriber and to be honest quite happy. Some guy from external sales from virgin media phoned up and offered me a good deal , the bb is the only disappointing thing with sky so vm sounds good. Now my only reason for not leaving sky is sky atlantic and i pointed this out to him. His response was sky atlantic is comming to virgin in a couple of months guaranteed. I asked him to put this in writting and he will, if its not they will refund my subs to date and cancel the contract.

Alot of people wont believe this and thats fine but has anyone phoned virgin threatening to leave because of sky atlantic and got a similar response or anyone else had a similar dealing. The deal offered was very good which included free tivo with no installation fee and a free second box upstairs for no monthly subs ever as long as i keep at least tv m+

Don't encourage them, muppetman11! These practices are anti-competitive and it's about time the regulators did something about it.

I hope the CAT tell sky to offer Sky Sports HD3 and HD4 to Virgin Media ,Bt Vision(when they start to have HD channels) in year or so
