While you're waiting, why not enjoy the badminton on SS4 red button? :)

I've found a couple of slight problems on my Samsung V+ box connected to an HD Ready LCD via HDMI.

1: Although the video menu is in widescreen the selection boxes don't match the size and positions of the video windows. I imagine the overlay is assuming that the screen is anamorphic rather than the true widescreen pic via HDMI. Do the Sky boxes switch to Scart for SD streams?

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/at...1&d=1313272175

2: The "stats" screen is squished into a 4:3 pillarbox so the video window is distorted.

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/at...1&d=1313272175

3: Selecting one of the video streams full-screen squashes the picture into a 4:3 pillarbox. The first pic is via the red button app, the second pic is the main channel.

Mine was fine in menu, then as you say I had an inch gap at the top and the bottom of the screen when I selected the game, but after a few seconds it resized to fill the whole screen.

True, I didn't think of that. Do the menu highlights match up on your Sky box or is it like in my pics?

QPR v Bolton and Liverpool v Sunderland are both being broadcast in the wrong aspect ratio on the Red Button stream. The other 3 games are displayed correctly.

The problem with the overlay boxes not fitting the screens correctly is probably a limitation of the software. I suspect you have the same config as me, with all aspect ratios displayed correctly and not stretched.

Ours is working now on our V+ Box but does seem a bit buggy. When we press the red button and the message box saying "Please wait" appears it does seem to freeze more often than not resulting in us having to reboot the box.

Re: sky sports red button

If it hangs on the "Please wait" message you can sometimes return to live TV by pressing the blue button on your remote rather than rebooting.

I think the main complaint Mobes is VMs lack of communication which has let them down ie most customers were not sure exactly what they would be getting.

And yes Football first imatch choice is available in full which is a good thing for most SS subs.:)

Yes, i appreciate that Richard. As another example, Sky have hailed that they will get getting the HD versions of the UKTV channels. We all knew about that yet had to ask Neil Berkott himself to find out VM customers will ALSO be getting theses channels.

Love VM, hate VM's communication!

I'm very happy for all you Premier League footy watchers with Match Choice etc.

The key thing is going to be when I have seen say cricket over runs and go onto the red button. Or in the case of the cricket World Cup there are games happening at the same time and to access the other games it was the red button.

Still looks to me like we don't have the full proper red button service and just what Virgin are wanting to give us :(

Fair comments... on the UKTV deal though, I think they (VM) couldn't say much as it was part of the negotiations to sell.

As VM were in negotiation with Scripps at the time, making an announcement would have been a very bad move.

Fair enough SP. I do wonder though how it is that being at that point part owner of UKTV and ALSO/THEREFORE in negotioations with Scripps that SKY (nothing to do with either UKTV or sales negotiations) are able to 1) get a deal first 2) therefore able to announce the deal first.

Quite bizarre! Anyhow, makes no odds now I guess...

First off they weren't in negotiations to sell off channels so there is less in the way of them making an announcement . Also I would guess VM had the deal first but just couldn't announce it.

Cricket is my sport as well and i am concerned we may get very little via the red button as has been the case all summer, with a couple of matches that were live on sky red button, not being available to vms sky sports subs(both west indies matches).

As you say i wonder what the deal will be when it comes to cricket world cups with matches happening all the time?

As it stands and i was told this, vm only get what sky want to give them, and none of us customers knows exactly what the deal is as vm have not told us.But seeing as the red button has only happened twice for cricket all summer, we can assume i think its a watered down version as far as the cricket is concerned at least.:(

As you say i wonder what the deal will be when it comes to cricket world cups with matches happening all the time?

As it stands and i was told this, vm only get what sky want to give them, and none of us customers knows exactly what the deal is as vm have not told us.But seeing as the red button has only happened twice for cricket all summer, we can assume i think its a wattered down version as far as the cricket is concerned at least.:(

I think your assumption is right Richard

Can I just say that I grew up with what was on the TV, That was it. So the red button does not mean anything to me as I have tasted life without it. I think that a few posters one here have gone through the same as well.

It is just a time where you have grown up and got what you wanted or you had to take what you were given?

True but when it comes to the red button on sky sports on vm i feel vm customers are paying for it devil,it costs £22.50 a month not cheap, why take what you are given without complaint?

Especailly when it leads to missing sport you feel you have paid for,do not know about you but when i pay for something i like to feel i am getting value for money.

The fact is that if we pay the same as Sky subscribers for Sky Sports then we should recieve the same functionality as them because we are paying enough in our bills

Actually denphone vm customers pay more for sky sports £20.25 with sky, £22.50 a month with vm.;)

I fully agree with you.

Den,

I have had Sky for years now and as I recall there was no red button service at launch but when it did arrive there was no added cost to my subscription, therefore,to say you pay enough for the channels may be true but I dont think it say's that a red button service is part of that cost to view these channels.

Has not your Sky sports subs risen year by year relentlessly since it first started so l suspect you are paying for it as part of your Skys Sports subscription.

Yes, but similarly my VM subs have risen and I dont have the sports channels with VM so I just put the rises down to good old inflation etc etc.

Soon it will be even easier to catch your team on telly, thanks to the Sky Sports red button.

If they’re not showing on the main channel, all you need to do is press the red button on your remote control, and Bob’s your uncle, you can scroll through all the games and select your side. It’ll work for all 2011-2012 Barclays Premier League matches, plus any UEFA Champions League match, ATP tennis, US Open, Heineken Cup and more. Plus, your clever red button unlocks loads of news and stats, too. And an extra bonus, from late spring you can use it to track down smaller sports events, games or highlights, too. Just keep an eye out for the red button appearing on your Sky Sports premium channels. Nice one!
