Well I'm off on a two week Med. cruise on Saturday, will have to watch the Champions League final on board.

Third port of call is Barcelona, might have to wear my Oldham Athletic shirt instead of my Man U one that day, it all depends on the result.:D

Nice! Have fun :)

Do pay a trip to Camp Nou if you have time, looks fab on the tv but in real life i was suprised it hasn't fallen down! Much like the rest of Barca, everything is half finished :D

I didn't hear Boos. Just sounded a muted reception compared to some of the other players. I was wondering if they were holding back given his conduct earlier this season.

This will be our third cruise visit to Barca in the past couple of years, done the Camp Nou and the aquarium etc.

It was heaven to be sat in Las Ramblas enjoying a cool beer and listening to Micheal Owen scoring in 'Fergie time' last season against Man City.

I have kept putting it off but I suppose the wife will finally get to drag me round some half finished church that is supposed to be a 'must see';)

As for Rooneys reception it sounds just as good on TV as any other to me.:)

True - but then the Champions League was only for Champions therefore bith the cup winners & UEFA cups held more weight

I think it is largely only English clubs that put out second string teams

He admitted it, the mistake seemed genuine, it wasn't really much of a performance enhancing drug. In fact, it was performing enhancing at all it just happened that one of the ingredients could have been considered so in much large doses. 6 months seems harsh.

Ferdinand only got 8 months for missing a test...

Again. 'Taking' drugs ignores the fact that it's a matter of scale. Your making it sound as if he was injecting himself with steroids while he took his wifes diet pills, not the same thing.

Missing a test is serious and is punished as such as it would allow a player who knew he would test positive to simply skip the test and avoid heavier punishment.

not sure about the tactically inept. I'm not sure there's tactics within the rules of the game that can cope with Barca on that form.

Let's not go overboard.

Bearing in mind Real Madrid beat them in the Copa Del Rey final a few weeks ago, and they have actually lost a number of games this season, you're clearly wrong.

No, but it does weaken it.

Barcelona on an average day would hold most good teams on their best. With the fluidity they showed tonight no Premiership team would have beaten them.

Of course. I highly doubt any Premier League team would beat Real Madrid at their best either.

You could say the same about Man United within England or any other dominate team anyway. That doesn't mean Real Madrid/Arsenal/Hercules or whoever won merely because of luck though.

I agree with the applause for Barcelona but please do stop making it look like they were 'Gods'

They were brilliant but Manchester United contributed to Barca's display by leaving a few players at home.

Notably, Valencia (Non existent throughout), Hernandez had an absolute shocker and spent the opening 45 minutes offside and the other 45 doing nothing. Ryan Giggs was also non existent for the entirety.

I'm a Toon fan and obviously I'm a bit disappointed because like any true English football fan you root for the English side!

Messi is a fantastic player and all credit too him but the defending tonight made him look twice the player he is! First 10 minutes they marked him properly and chased him down every time! He barely touched the ball in this period because of the excellent marking.. The other 80 minutes however were a whole lot different and he was allowed to run anywhere he pleased. You simply cannot afford to just let him run at you for 40 yards whilst backing off.

My list of top performers in that match.

Lionel Messi
Wayne Rooney
Park Ji Sung
Carrick
Pedro
Dani Alves

regardless of whether or not Man U turned up tonight, the team that was there got a lesson in football. how many times did you see Barca hoof the ball up the field, or hit-and-hope? I think I saw Abidal clear it 2 maybe 3 times towards the end of the game by putting his boot through it. Man U seemed to try the long, 50/50 ball almost every time they had possession. in fact, I think Barca only tried putting the ball in once from the many corners they had - that's how in control they are. they play fast, close passes. if they didn't think 100% that it will get to a team mate, they didn't play that ball. they were calm, never rushed and were back defending in numbers very fast. nani was surrounded by at least 2 players any time he had the ball, and that was at the end of 90 minutes. if they could get 3 players around a man u shirt with the ball, they did it. Man U were totally in the shadow of Barca. Gods? maybe not. Messengers? probably.

Well it was the same for Liverpool in the 70s and 80s, if you have some success then there's always a queue of people waiting to knock you down. Also, I don't think the way that Mr Ferguson has conducted himself in the past endears him to the fans of other clubs. Best policy is to support your own team and manager without worrying what others think.

I have heard stong rumours that Harry Rednappe will become the next Chelsea manager, l have a sore stomach through laughing so much.

Harry might be a brilliant coach and manager, but Abramowich wants sucess EVERY season, Harry can't supply that, if Ab'ch had his way he would buy the damn cups and titles. Just think Angelotti was sacked for team failure - and they came second and got back into the champions League.

Remember - money can't buy everything.

Agree with you on Giggs and others I've said above but United were not totally crap. It was just a few players that were not in the game to be fair and you need everyone to play good to beat barca.

Indeed I did but that was the only time I seen him :p:

Nani should have been on a lot earlier. He was barely on 4 minutes and he had taken on two defenders which was more than what Valencia had done for the time he was on.

Barcelona were brilliant. Man United are the best English team this year and they simply could not cope.

I didn't think Ferguson would get 'done' by the same team twice. I thought United would give a robust, clinical, physical, and tactual game and thus manage to beat Barcelona. However it was evident that they were powerless against such a team.

Barcelona are not unbeatable.

They are the best team in Europe - that would have remained true regardless of the result yesterday - and they can probably be called the best club side ever now. It really is a remarkable era and a remarkable team that we get to watch.

Real Madrid could beat them, Manchester City could beat them, almost any team in Europe could beat them if they have a good day, however it depends on them also having a bad day. United had a good day yesterday but then so did Barca and no one can stop Barcelona when they have a good day.

My policy is always root for the underdog.. Probably why I've been a man city supporter all my life (mind you being born in Moss-Side also had a lot to do with it)..

When England play SA I always support SA :D

Just think of all the quality team we can lose to now, instead of mediocre ones, Rooney, Torres, Tevez all scoring hatricks against us, it's going to be awesome!

Anyone know why they changed the name to the Community Shield in 2002?

Yup. Not a surprise. All the clues had suggested this was to be the case, upcoming testimonial, hasn't signed a new contract.

Good Player, shame to see him go but has done himself and his club proud.

My all time favourite player. I never tire watching his performances and the goals he scored, he will be missed.

It was not going to be a suprise but to an ex-fan of the oppostition is was good to have watched him play.
I wonder where he'll go next... management, trainer, idyllic island in the tropics?

He could probably afford to buy an island but I doubt if he could afford the sunblock he's need with his complexion. :D

He's apparently taking up a coaching role at Utd.

Could people post their clubs done deals and speculation :P

Newcastle United

Signed: Yohan Cabaye Lille (Agreed a deal with Newcastle United set to be fully completed following his International Fixtures)

Speculation:

Dimitar Berbatov is supposedly very interested in a move to the club he supports. Pardew is set to meet United's 7.5m evaluation

A question for "The Daddy"

What is your opinion on West Ham's appointment of Sam Allardyce as manager?

Also, do you think that Sam's reputation of route one football will be a bit of a culture shock for the die hard West Ham fans who are used to the passing game?

and....

Will you and other West Ham fans accept him for one, two or maybe three seasons if he manages to get you promoted back into the Premiership where you really belong.

He said he would play better football like he tried at Newcastle, I'll give him a go as long as he stops chewing gum and doesn't try and sign Diouf

New West Ham manager Sam Allardyce wants to sign Blackburn's El-Hadji Diouf. The striker had been on loan at Rangers, who remain interested in him.

Oh dear, looks like that plan skidded...

Couple of relatively big moves on the cards today for those who haven't been keeping up with the news:

Jordan Henderson from Sunderland to Liverpool (fee agreed)

Phil Jones from Blackburn to Man utd

Tevez to the naughty corner (I'll give you 5p and a bag of cheesy wotsits for him)

Also Sunderland have bid £12 million for Gibson, O'Shea and Brown from United.

He's a good manager, quite possibly the best out of current employment we could get. England aside, his record is good.
