Both are doing VERY well and i couldn't be more happier, currently Emily is in the special babies unit, sadly they won't be home for christmas but health comes first, heres a little pic.

my happy thought - all the shopping done (presents and food) - if it's not got now, it's not getting got.

Off to my mum's on Christmas day, and then Mrs_monkey's family are coming round on boxing day, and I'm cooking. (how did that happen - again?)

I feel a bit liberated as I'm dealing with my problems. Then I contacted all my 'essentials' and re-directed all my direct debits to the new account. The mortgage will get paid, along with associated costs and my car.

Well my plan for the day is to allow Mr T to prepare the veg, cook the Christmas dinner, and set the table. Whilst I help by supervising the procedures and enjoying a small apperitiff. When he has everything organised we will take a slow saunter up to our local Club and enjoy a couple of vimtos, before heading home to enjoy the aforementioned (hic*) dinner. :D:D:D

A nice (well, wonderful, actually) surprise in the early hours of this morning.

After we got home from Midnight Mass last night, my daughter's boyfriend took me and my wife to one side to ask our permission (for him) to propose to my daughter - we said yes, and he proposed to her this morning, so that was her best gift of the day.....:D

For a while now, my Apple Time Capsule has been difficult to access via SMB (the standard Windows File Sharing protocol). I always suspected it was something introduced by Apple, as not only did SMB work with Windows before the previous TC firmware version, but SMB worked with OSX. In fact, it never stopped working on OSX.

Anyhow, I fired up my Mac and it picked up an upgrade for OSX's built in Airport software Downloaded, installed and ran this. It picked up a new firmware version for my TC.

Although the SMB problem wasn't listed as one of the fixes, my PC is currently moving many gigabytes of data to the TC, and has been doing so for 30 minutes without a failure.

bare in mind even if the worst happens and you end up with bad credit marks they are only there for 6 years.Even CCJ's are off after 6 years. I had a credit card debt I just could not pay and all I could pay was the interest every month so I simply stopped paying. A few months down the line ( about 200 quid interest was added) the debt was frozen and passed along to the banks debt collectors. I made an arrangement to pay back the debt over 5 years no more interest 6 years where I could not get in any trouble credit wise and now its paid off and my credit rating is clean

obviously you need to pay your mortgage and prioritise the rest imo. Some companies ime do not even pass on the info to the credit refference agencies

get a free report from experion see what is recorded ( sign up for free month then cancel)

Thanks for that, the mortgage and other 'essentials' are set up on my new bank account and will be paid as normal. The only things I'm not paying this month are loan, overdraft and credit cards. Would the 6 years start from when an agreed payment plan is put in place?

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

the 6 years start from the date a default or none payment is issued and placed on the credit report

However if the payment passes like mine did to a different company a new report will be made. Also if anything does end up with a debt collection agency make sure they have proof they have rights to chase the debt

I had a HFC debt which they reported but the debt collection agency ( zinc recoveries in the end) never put their own in and I only paid some of it.

Pleased for you both!

As for Mrs Gaz, that's truly growing old gracefully! ;)

It's funny how people assume you are old if you are a great aunt (or uncle).

My youngest aunt was already a great aunt when she hit 35.

Admittedly she is considerably younger than her sisters (nearly 20 years younger than her oldest sister).

Thanks, the significant thing is the sense of moving on from the loss of my sister in law, earlier this year - and while we are sad she isn't here to see her grand daughter, it is still good news :)

There wasn't enough pressure upstairs to have a shower so washed hair in kitchen sink, did all the bottles I could find, the dishes and sterilised everything in sight. Hubby was on loo duty but we had been using water from my brothers tap (he is about 10 miles away and had water from last night) to flush the loo during the day. Then topped up any empty water containers.

Now looking at a snoring baby hoping he wakes soon for a feed so I can sleeeeeeeeep.

I can't imagine how bad it has been for you over the last few days - all I can do is pay tribute to the indomitable spirit that has kept you all keeping on keeping on - respect - hope you get that sleeep :)

I've been a tad smug and laughing about it, no point in getting stressed out really. That and the head of NI Water customer service is the old manager from Ntl here who made lots of people redundant and closed the call centre here, so watching him squirm when being interviewed has provided a few giggles.

Between us, my dad and my father in law we raided the bottled water supplies before a lot of people even realised that their water was off. None of this going and queueing at a stand pipe to get water you need to boil for me. ;)

I'm sneakily filling my bath, shhhh!

I feel like such a rebel for every drop of water I take out of the tap, people (including my parents and inlaws) who are only just over a mile away and in the same post code still don't have.... best get the kettle on!

Just had our first home-baked loaf from our Christmas present from the kids (a Panasonic 257, inspired by the plaudits it received on CF).

Waking up to the smell of fresh-baked bread, then the wonderful taste - excellent.

There is a census being completed again next year and adverts have appeared looking for staff to assist people in their own home to complete and return their forms. In a day I've completed an application form, passed an online suitability test and arranged a phone interview for 7th January :)

Its only 6 weeks work at 15 hours a week so I'm sure I can manage to work it around my full time job and the hourly pay isn't too bad either.

Now i've just got to find myself a free or almost free replacement fridge freezer which died on me yesterday - there's always somsething huh

I am doing that job, passed the phone interview apparently on 15th December (she shouldn't have told me how well I'd done) and that six weeks could turn into 8 or 12 weeks quite easily so I am told + there is a small bonus upon completion as well as wages. The phone interview is pretty straight forward, they basically want to know about relevant experience.

On the 2 hour quick setting (for a 500g loaf), our usual loaf consist of 250g of Strong white, 150g Hovis Granary, and 100g of Strong brown flour. Tastes much better than just plain white or brown.

Ooh thanks for the info, are you opting for one of the part time posts? I'm thinking it might be heavy going (after some of the scenarios on the suitability test) but it should look good on my cv :)

I thought the time slot was starting the end of March with 1st week of May completion? I didn't realise it could go over.

Yeah I am going for between 15 and 25 hours per week. The phone interview is nothing to worry about, it only takes 5 mins!

Didn't they mention phase 2 to you? Apparently after the first month or so they may decide to keep you on for a little longer, couldn't really go into to much detail with her though as she was reluctant to tell me how I done first of and secondly they phoned me much later than scheduled and I was right in the middle of some thing, typical. Kind of ties in with the suitability questions to I guess with the phase 1,2 and 3 questions.

I haven't spoken to anyone yet so only knew what was available on the website. I'm up for it, but I was a bit worried as they say they don't want you taking any holidays whilst working for them but I'll have to deal with that at the time.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm looking forward to the telephone interview already :)

I probably went a little OTT getting a wireless dual band gigabit router, but it worked straight out of the box - so far I've tested with my netbook, my laptop & my kindle - WPA2 password in each case ...

The desktops are still wired - will prolly leave mine wired & set up Mrs Gaz on wireless - <evil laugh> I could schedule her, then ... ;)
