So does anyone know whether the ngtv roll out is the cause of the delay or the analogue switch off? There is no point people checking to see if they are in an ngtv enabled area if it's not the deciding factor.

What headend do i look for in Wigan. Only cable could do this offer channels to some and not to others. Do the ones who cant get the channels get a refund of £1.50 a month.

That kind of sucks especially after all the good news we have had over the last few weeks. But I was half expecting something like this.
Looking at Media Boys NGTV headend thread it looks like roughly half have been done and seeing as they have been swapping cards since November does anyone else thing that they will not get the other half done in 10 weeks? |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)
It is £75 if you already have a V+ and a V box. Most people would want to swap their second box (normally a V box on the XL Plus and VIP pack) which makes a total of £110 which is not a good deal for tjhose that take all services and pay the most.
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)
Plus depending what what your current package call them Monday and say you want the New V HD box but can they send it via post -(Worth a Try, but I doubt they will)
or Maybe try and upgrade your services and they maybe able todo a deal I joined and went for the VIP pack and asked I would only take it if I got FULL services and they have upgraded me to XXL 50MB BB. Always worth a go and see what they can do - they always have deals Sometimes upgrades might only cost you £4/5 per month but if they are able to through another deal i.e. free line rental for 6 mths you will end up evens at end of year. Give it ago you just have to see what deal they have on at the moment. ---------- Post added at 21:24 ---------- Previous post was at 21:20 ---------- Quote:

Good - As the STB are fully covered and we dont have to pay for someone to come out to Repair or Replace (For the life of the contract) Bad - STB are cheaper elsewhere (but I can see the point) When I was with Sky I had two HD boxes - I bought the original at the old original £250 and then 2nd off ebay for £50. Sky let you buy box's from wherever, all you have todo is call them to get the card registered to the STB but then Sky charge for call outs and repair/replacements. ---------- Post added at 21:48 ---------- Previous post was at 21:46 ---------- Anyway there goes by plan to upgrade my V Box to V+HD |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)
I've got an idea for Virgin how about two bars to tell you how little space you have left on your V+: One telling you how much space you have left for SD programmes and the other for HD programmes.
ALSO (I was going to start another thread on this but thought better of it) I don't stop watching T.V at 23:55 like Virgin would probably like me to, SO I don't appreciate my TV freezing for half an hour so it can sort out any "updates" it wants. I want to be able to change channel, watch VOD, or watch a V+ed programmed if I want, without the box doing absolutely nothing! |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)
Some news on HD line ups.
Some could be early 2010 release but expectation is either all or most will be late 2010 early 2011 (Note nothing 100% that all will be on VM as some will be partnered by BskyB) Comedy Central HD - 25% owned by BskyB & 75% Viacom so could be a Sky deal only. E! HD - may not happen due to lack of HD content Bio HD History HD BET HD Bravo HD - plus maybe Bravo+1 HD but it might be pulled QVC HD ESPN America HD - This will happen ESPN2 HD - This may not get released to UK but we will have a ESPN2 channel with ESPN renamed as ESPN1 and the ESPN HD channel showing 1&2 content. ESPN Classic HD - This wont be until 2011 and will be upscaled SD again some doubt if this will get released within UK. VH1 HD - Maybe, HD/upscaled SD. Animal Planet HD FTV HD (Fashion TV) CNN HD - Maybe Sky Sports News HD |

If I had to put a number on it I would say 10 of these will happen
With, E!, BET, QVC, ESPN2 & ESPN Classic not airing in the UK - but you never know with broadcasters. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)
VH1 HD? Are you having a laugh, they have no HD contnet to show, they could just increae the bit rate and the picture would improve.
Comedy Central HD is the one I would love the most (along with ESPNA HD), it is the most watched channel in our household. |

But those channels also have HD content to put on them. You cant have a HD channel with just upscalled SD. You might as well increase the bitrate on the SD channel and save a load of money and bandwidth.

Your missing the point, what does VH1 show that has HD content? I hardly ever see new music on there so all their music videos they play are going to be SD anyway.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)
I wasnt intending to join in the "when is my headend being upgraded" debate until I saw that until this happens I wont get the full range of HD channels.
Whilst I dont feel as strongly about this as some other forum members (although I understand their strength of feeling) as I am actualy happy with the upscaling capabilities of my V+ box, I am a bit annoyed that I am paying the same for my service as other people but wont be getting the same level of service. Now I am realistic, I understand that pure logistics mean that the change over cant happen at the same time for everybody. It would not be fair on those who have had the switch over to have to wait for the rest of us before they get the channels. I do think that VM should provide those of us that have to wait with a slight reduction in subscriptions until the change takes place. Truth is (IMHO) that VM will be aware that proportionaly there will likely be very few subscribers that are aware that they arent getting the same service as others (probably mainly those subscribers that also use forums such as this one) and so dont really care about the few of us that do know. As I said this IS a bit of sour grapes, because I am reasnobly happy with SD, but overall I want there to be fairness. If I pay the same as others I should get the same as others, if it isnt possible to provide me with the same service (and I realise it isnt) then I shouldnt pay the same. Oh yes, and that headend question.... When is Colchester changing over? |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)
At least it's just June and not coming soon like the interactive place holder page I had for six years.
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)
Does anyone know when Tonbridge is going NGTV. What headend are we on?
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)
At least VM are being honest and managing your expectations regarding the rollout... would be worse if they waited until the day they were to launch and then said "oh by the way, you won't get these channels until May etc..."
My area hasn't gone NGTV yet and I may miss out on the launch..not happy, but as I said earlier, you can't expect them to upgrade a soon to close headend, it would be such a waste of money. Media Boy has already created a NGTV thread.. I'm sure he will be updating that thread as and when he gets more info on rollout. Some of us will have to endure a little time without the new channels, but it will all be worth it in the end... this is going to be a good year for VM and it's customers! :) |

Totally agree that they are being honest I didnt dispute that, but that doesent mean they are being fair. I actualy dont mind waiting till June (as long as it is June), as I said I am quite happy with the upscaling capabilities of the V+ - when I select what I am going to watch the issue of if it is in HD or not is quite low down my list of priorities. But I still think that if I am not getting the same service as others I shouldnt have to pay the same. I know it wont change, and to be honest I am not going to loose sleep over it, I just believe in fairness. |

You also have to remember that VM are supplying the HD channels as a free add on to your subscription and therefore no refunds will be given. The other option VM had would of been to delay ALL of the HD launches until June... now I don't think that would be fair either.. the upgrades are for a unified network, so everyone gets the same. Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)
Over the last month VM have released press release after press release with 6 new HD channels coming and their not stopping there.
The last 2/3 pages are people just moaning that there might be a slight delay for them getting these new HD channels which is due to the NGTV upgrade being completed. I myself are one of those that will not get these HD channels for 1st/2nd April. The fact VM are completing the NGTV upgrade which benefits all VM customers and the fact they are listening and starting to produce promises around more HD content. So for those that who wish to moan and curse about a possiable month delay (no doubt it will be done sooner) either except that VM are doing this for the greater good or GO TO SKY NGTV post gives all the inforamtion needed so go moan there. |

the next point its not just as easy as "GO TO SKY". even with all the great information you brought you just proved how moronic you can be. people just cant up sticks and move to Sky there is people who ristrictions by either not being able to have a sky dish installed due to living in rented accomodation and not having permission off the landlords or because then live in housing unsuitable for installing sky dishes (high rise flats), there is even places where the local council wont let you have permission to have a dish on the house regardless of if you own it or not. sure its only a short wait (2 months actually not 1 if you are the last area to be swapped to NGTV) but people on VM have been waiting a long time for the HD revolution to finally happen on VM sure we got a little last year but the latest announcement is rally putting VM on par with Sky and to announce them to all and then to issue restrictions to people due to VM not upgrading as fast as they thought is dissapointing. Maybe VM should of taken the NGTV upgrades into account and mentioned it on all the announcements that the channels are NGTV spacific or that the channel will be available to all in june (sooner to customers on NGTV). as it is VM have shot themselves in the foot by doing a pretty poor job on clarity of the situation (or a good job in decieving customers) and customers have the right to moan about it. my area is already on NGTV (Teesside) so personally its not going to affect me, but i do feel for those who are going to have to wait as ive been on the end of a few deals like this (not just on VM) and its annoying to have to wait for something other have already even though you are paying the same price. |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)
As someone who lives in an area which will not get the new HD channels I have to say I feel pretty hard done to by this. After YEARS of waiting for Virgin to get their act together with HD they fall at the last hurdle.
Could it really have been so difficult to have upgraded all the head ends by now? It's absolutely pathetic and shows they are still totally clueless as a TV provider. I won't be going to Sky as I despise Murdoch, but they have managed to reset my opinion on them back to 'these guys are cluess imbeciles' level. And frankly I don't see why I should be paying the same XL charge as everyone else when I will soon be getting a LOT less for my money than others will.
