... or 3. That'll be Sky Sports' choice at the time of each match. I don't think their Extra or Interactive (not available on VM) feeds do HD yet, but they could change that.

I think Barney Francis was talking about Sky Sports as he say later on in that story on Sky Sports.com:

Quote:

Sky Sports has covered the Scottish game since our launch 18 years ago - we are long-term supporters.
Then at the end it says:

Quote:

The Clydesdale Bank Premier League matches will air on Sky Sports and ESPN.

ESPN has already reached an agreement for its coverage to be retailed by Sky to residential and commercial customers.

ESPN is also in discussions with other Pay-TV platforms in the UK for the ESPN channel.

Because they're a major selling point in Sky's view, and they're not going to make them available to competitors unless Ofcom (and several appeals to the courts) force them to.

There are several things l am not happy about, according to VM there should have been 'seven' HD channels coming, instead we get four, and we have been waiting months for this, what about ITVHD, l can never understand VM, the customers are demanding other HD channels plus Sky, but all we get is channels, that customers don't watch, Also the SFL have sorted out the ESPN deal, and yet again VM is behind, what the hell is happening.

VM are planning on more HD channels appearing before the end of the year.

You might not watch the channels that are launching in HD but they are some of the most popular channels.

What makes you think VM are behind? just because Sky has agreed a deal already. VM could still be negotiating and trying to get a better deal than what Sky got.

Its weird, haven't really watched Nat Geo before, but have been looking at the channel in prep for HD and have found that its actually very good, it beats the Discovery channels that I normally watch

In fact, Teletext was on cable - NTL at least - from the beginning, but was pulled around 2004. Only a handful of the original "TV Internet" services live on, including ITN and Bloomberg. Deceased services of note include Guardian Unlimited and Radio Times. [1]

I suspect you're thinking of the "text" button on the remote control, which as far as I know has never done anything. I wonder whether it was originally intended to launch an "analogue" teletext interpreter. It's exceedingly unlikely that the button couldn't be remapped as a trigger, but since the BBC and perhaps Nat Geo would be the only ones to use it I doubt VM think it's worth the effort - all the text content is available under the red button (and, unique to VM - at least, in terms of platforms with any substantial amount of users - on any channel through the Interactive menu) and on other platforms carrying BBC Red Button the text button does exactly the same thing as the red button.

Since it's relevant to my post, I ought to point out that Sky Text and Sky Active work a little differently - "text" on a Sky channel (on Sky and Freeview) will take you to Sky Text, and red on a Sky channel (on Sky) takes you to a version of the Sky Active portal.

As has been said before, ITV HD is tied into a contract with Freesat, and there are set to be more HD channels launched by the end of the year.

Another blow for glass manufacturers. Not only is the market for double glazing / replacement doors diminishing but what a hammer blow that the market for ***** jewellery is affected too. :)

I have just found that Virgin Media has added an new ''TS Strams'' to Ex-Telewest in my area.

Maybe something to do with the HD Channels that are coming within the next six weeks?

I have now got 35 ''TS Strams.''

My ex-NTL/ex-CW is still on 31 TS Streams and recently, over a period of weeks, dropped from 309 channels to 299 and up to 300 again.

There is still a fairly sizeable differential between your configuration and mine. Surely as analogue is phased out and the channel lineup on ex-NTL and ex-TW merge we should be seeing similar numbers in all areas on all platforms.

The four additional HD channels will be available from August 1st. The PictureBox service HD films will increase to around 75% of their films within the first year. Confirmation on ESPN is expected shortly. And there may be more additional HD channels (Eurosport and History?) available October/November.

Well then he's been stealing from you (and me) for four years so you really should report him. :td:

Theft of this nature either directly affects the price we pay for our services or stifles the development of the network. VM might have been able to offer some services such as additional channels, HD and faster broadband sooner, if they had the revenue from these parasites.

Nat Geo HD may launch on Virgin Channel 232.
MTVNHD may launch on Virgin Channel 314.

Plus as of Saturday July 11th, Eurosport HD and History HD was not testing in an Ex-ntl area of Virgin Media.

Do we know what they are holding onto channel 113 for? Living2 is on 112 but Living2 +1 is on 160 rather than 113.

I feel a renumbering coming on, once the new HD and other channels settle down, possibly early next year.

It is hard to come up with an ideal numbering scheme which groups like channels together, caters for +1 and HD channels and still reserves numbers or groups of numbers for certain channels (e.g. BBC1..4; ITV1..4; the C4 suite; the Five suite; Sky1..3; Virgin; Living etc.). We'll see what they come up with.

I'll miss Living +2. :(

Well, I had TV(L) and Phone (L) and 10 meg BB along with V+ and an additional box. I asked the nice lady at VM if I could upgrade for the price online and she said that it was only for new customers. I told her that I really wanted to upgrade to TV(XL) because I wanted the additional HD channels along with Phone (XL). She put me on hold for quite a while then came back and said I could have the lot (inc the boxes I had) for less than I was paying already, although I did include in my calcs the average p/m I was paying for my daytime phone calls. But in the end it all worked out cheaper.

What can I say................I'm a smooth talking son of a ......................... . I deserve this price I've been with them for eons. :D

I doubt there's much to do with the recession.

Basically five got the worst freeview HD license, which lets them launch one when bandwidth allows, and seeing as how the multiplex has only 30mbps of bandwidth, it's going to be a long long time before the technology improves enough to launch the 4 HD channels on the single multiplex that's set aside for them. Cramming just 3 into there is going to result in them having a pretty poor bitrate.

No i said i think the recession will delay it past mid 2010, but cancleled might be becaue five can not wait until they get space so just abanond there plans for hd channel, unless there have to do it by law?

I watch Five USA a lot and it is noticeable how little advertising they have had since the beginning of the year. They've been putting out musical fillers in the commercial breaks reminiscent of the early days of Channel 4. I don't know if Fiver is the same but supporting three channels plus Demand Five might make launching a HD service a low priority for them until things pick up, unless they can sell HD on some exclusive deal as ITV have done with FreeSat. It doesn't look promising for their Milkshake kiddies channel either unless they can swing some Christmas toy advertising revenue. (Yes, it's that time of year already!)

Does that make sense or am I talking ?

Ah! That accounts for six of the seven channels that disappeared over night. I was at 300 channels briefly but now down to 293. What was the other one I wonder?

They are now testing in my area (Ex-Telewest).

Can I tell everyone who is posting for the next few hours to add your Ex network before 2007. (Ex-CW, Ex-ntl or Ex-Telewest)

If the tests is only on Ex-Telewest boxes it maybe some of the channels that only broadcast on Ex-ntl right now or Virgin are testing the channels out for the three HD Channels that are due to launch next week.

If they are also on Ex-ntl areas someone at Virgin did not press the right button.

I have just work out what the test are for.

Test is called VMTest1, VMTest2 and VMTest3 and is the names Virgin are using for the HD Channels that are testing in Ex-NTL areas.

You will see them being removed when Virgin add the HD Channels next week,

Virgin did this before back in 2006 when the Baby Channel was about to launch in Telewest areas.

After following this thread in its many forms for a long long time I have decided to add my first post, So hello all.:wavey::wavey:
On the subject of the hd channels I have been waiting patiently for the price to come down on the tv's before investing in the equipment and then waiting for news of channels to arrive on virgin. Now the channels are arriving i think i will make the switch fairly soon. The announced channels will do me fine for now (accept mtv, I have never been one for music vidoes, if I a want music i have an mp3 player for that) and the hd content in vod is not bad.
However am i being thick in thinking that at least 2 of the four channels annouced belong to skys parent company (news corparation)? Does anyone think that this may mean that the boys at news corp may be seeing that its better to get the channels out on all platforms and maximize revenue thru wholesale values for the channels rather than have them as a sky exclusive? i know it will be a long time before we see the sky branded hd channels on virgin but maybe any other hd channels that sky has a hand in or has them tied to exclusive deals may be coming in the future.:eh:
On another note I wonder if we will ever get the sky player on virgin (lol) now that would be a coup.
Anyway thanks for letting me waffle but what does anyone else think?:blah::blah:

I think the slaps a bit much especially to a first time post. I agree vm's vod is far superior and I use it most weekends during the day (not just to catch up on things)
If you look at what i said it was meant to be sarcastic (as if sky would give virgin acces to the only good content it has on demand)
But as TheDon says we could do with the content. Surley more vod content is better and I for one would happily watch a full series of Stargate atlantis or 24 on vod rather than splash out on the dvds ( as i enjoy them but not enough to shell out the £30+ for the box set)
Anyway each to their own i suppose.

A: We are currently available on SKY Digital...we are aware that many of our audiences are on NTL and Telewest, but recently during our start of discussions we were informed by NTL that currently they do not have the capacity to launch a new channel on their platform. We are expecting to start our negotiations once again in 2009. Write to us on geouk@geo.tv so that we have maximum feedback from you to support our discussions with NTL/Telewest (Send us your name, address and other contact details).
