at about 11:30 only wearing bikinis and my first thought was they are going to freeze made me feel really old |

Re: Snow !
Quite a balmy 2 degrees here this morning :)
The MET Office say it will get a lot worse by Tuesday, :erm: more snow and ice |
Re: Snow !
Well blow me down..... we had a JCB arrive last night at about 9pm to clear a track up the hill we live on. First time that's ever happened so well done to the local council. :tu:
|
Re: Snow !
You are lucky.
I only live 2 miles from the town centre and yet this is the 4th day we have not had a bus service. I did see a gritter going past last night but it didn't look as though he was spreading salt, if he was I doubt it would be as much as I may put on my dinner. We walked down to some local shops yesterday only to find they had no bread or milk and one of the shop assistants said they did not know when it would be coming in. Yesterday afternoon I finally finished digging the snow from my driveway, so later today we are going to go to the next village to what we can get there. |
Re: Snow !
We have had very little snow here in Liverpool, last night we had a very light dusting followed by some rain then a nice frost to top it it all off, so the side roads and pavements are nice and slippy.
I also saw one idiot out for run at full pelt, an accident waiting to happen. |
Re: Snow !
Well I think the panic buyer brigade are largely to thank for the shortages. We were in town two days ago and saw folks in Tesco's loaded up with umpteen loaves of bread and cartons of milk as if the world was about to end. The result was that for the rest of the day the store was entirely sold out of these basics. Quite why the stores don't restrict sales in situations like this defeats me - they readily put a limit on special offers.

Snows all melted away after anight of driving rain. There is no frost and it's a lot warmer than it's been for the last two weeks.
Sun is out and life is back to normal. :) |
Re: Snow !
Went for a cheeky wee run in the snow. Tough, very tough but fun. Surprisingly not that slippy.

It's coming down thick and fast again this morning in central Scotland. School head was on the phone shortly after 8 ... closed again.
Two children standing in the lounge practising their lines for the Christmas play - assuming it even happens. The Christmas fair was postponed for a fortnight on Saturday. |
Re: Snow !
About 4" has fallen in the past two hours here in the G72 area. Oh joy...
I've not been out the house in over a week now because of the snow. Starting to get a little bit of cabin fever. Worse still the lights are flickering, knowing my luck a power cut is coming... |

Well I made my way from Glasgow to Bellshill this morning and am still in the office! May not get home.
This is the car park about 30 mins ago. Been snowing like this since about 8.40 this morning and the M8 Motorway is totally backed up. |
Re: Snow !
No snow here atm, but it hit -10 C last night, it was still -8 C when I set out for work (at 9:20).
|
Re: Snow !
Well snow got so bad all the roads were blocked and trains all cancelled. No way to get back to Glasgow so staying at my cousins in Hamilton. I walked the 6 miles along the motorway!
|
Re: Snow !
why dont we have any sand pits as we use to in the old days
to help clear the paths as i would defo help in clearing the paths if we did had any in the area but we dont an fear to go out on those paths as they not been treated |
Re: Snow !
YUP - had that earlier this year during the snow. Two guys in a pickup pulled up next to the grit bin at the bottom of our hill, emptied it and drove off with what looked like a lot of other stolen grit on board. I expect they're the same **** bags who charge to clear trees, rubbish, hardcore etc. then dump it down some country lane.....

Parts of the country were cut off for weeks and it was the whole of the UK that got the snow and ice, with the South East I think getting a fall of just over 2 ft. The temperatures were below freezing most days and we had no double glazing or central heating, with ice forming on inside of windows. Most people still went to work, usually walking as most people then living close to their place of work. So if this winter is to be worse than that it has alot to live up to and if does come it will cause chaos on a scale not seen before as most people would not know how to cope. |

All our roads are far more heavily used and a great deal of freight is carried on them. A vast number of the problems on the roads over the last couple of weeks has been jack-knifed lorries - something that would have been less of a problem in the 1960s with fewer lorries on the road and fewer cars to get stuck behind them. As for frozen toilets and the use of your local pub .... well I don't doubt that worked as a solution to the problem, but thankfully attitudes towards health and hygiene in schools are now a light-year away from what they used to be. Indoor toilets will have solved most freezing problems, but if our childrens' school suffered a loss of running water for any reason, these days it would be forced to close, and rightly so in my view. |
Re: Snow !
ouch, just passing Rugby on the train and it's been coming down. Can't imagine it being too clever when I get home. Should have packed me skis to get down our road.

Re: Snow !
Temps been dropping rapidly here in Central Beds and it's just started snowing
|
Re: Snow !
There is the lightest dusting of snow up in Perthshire. It's very, very cold though. Already well below freezing and not supposed to get above -5 tomorrow for my drive back home.

Re: Snow !
We had quite a flurry of snow early this afternoon but it didn't stick. Just made the roads and pavements nice and wet ready for the freezing temperature that has now arrived.

As predicted we have had snow overnight, not a lot just about 1 inch; I didn't think it would lie because the streets were wet. If we get anymore it's going to be dodgy. :erm: I'd better lay in a stock of the necessaries. :D:D:D |
Re: Snow !
About 4 or 5 inches here... loads of hilarious looks from the neighbours when out playing in it with my 2 year old just after 8am... great fun! No way I am driving anywhere anytime soon though.

4" of powder, then 2" of flake, now it's snowing mini snowballs!

Coming down thick here as well. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Flying out to Amsterdam then on to Singapore after a 2 hour layover. It's looking a bit precarious at the moment with lots of flights cancelled coming into Schiphol. The weather for tomorrow doesn't look too bad. Hopefully, the planes are in place...

The police know they can't stop and prosecute everyone so prefer going down the awareness route or failing that, the attitude test route. It is dangerous though. I saw an artic going round a roundabout and the snow and ice slid off onto the car in the next lane. It made a sizeable donk so there was obviously ice there. The car didn't seem too afected but if it was a (motor-)cyclist then the result could have been more severe. |

Also if you have a mound of snow around 8/10 inches deep on the bonnet and similar on the roof that has to be either dangerous driving or driving without due care and attention. |
