Re: [Merged] - Football talk

ok so Ruud's tackle is being looked into by the FA video panel. I can except that it was a bad challenge. What I don't understand is how come the unbiased FA who don't have an Arsenal chairman on their board aren't looking into the "challenge" by Henry where he kicked Heinze's head when he was already on the ground ? How come the papers and TV seem to have forgotton this.

I would if the situation was reversed and we had lost and one of our players had suffered a bad tackle from Cole if it would go to the video panel ?

Maybe if Cole wasn't a dirty player who kicks everyone all the time then Ruud wouldn't have gone for him. I guess it's ok for him to do that as it is for Pires to dive for pens and free kicks it's just a different matter when it's done back to them.

I wonder if Arsanal have anyone higher up in the FA who are invluencing this...?

Or even what about the Edu challange on Scholes where he raked his studs down Scholes' leg.

At least there is some good news, Arsene Wenger has found a partial cure for his myopia...

Anyway while we are talking about bad tackles? Anyone see Lauren's on Gareth Barry the other weekend? It was knee high, late, and Barry is now out until Xmas.

i think the difference there is that it was done by an Arsenal player so it's ok as it diving when Pires does it.

Who is the only team in the hostory of football who had had a penalty awarded against them and then had the ref changed his mind ?

When are the only team to get play stopped so their goalkeeper can change boots ?

Who after violent behavour last season managed and looking at 10 game bans for the players involved managed to get it reduced via the FA, where their chairman is on the board, to a few games each

How come Cole, Viera and Edu get away with tackles just as bad as this each week but never get sent before a video panel ?

If you remember last year we did get done

Also henry didnt kick him in the back of the head he was getting the ball and the whole thing became messy but it was by no means a clear kick in the head certainly not on purpose. And dont talk to us about diving

you started the diving first so we aer on;y copying the high standards that Arsenal have set. By using your model of play we are hoping to start a 100 game unbeaten run.

You didn't get done as much as you were going to . It was going to be 10 game bans each and then someone in the FA where your chairman sits bargained it down to a few games each.

Play had already stopped when Henize was on the ground and Henry jumped straight into his back. he wasn't trying to get the ball unless he was confusing he knee and his foot and the ball and Heinze's head.

Ruud has been studying videos of Cole, Viera and Edu in a bid to learn how they play when we was doing the tackle on Cole he was re-enacting what he had been studying. Again we aer only copying your style of play. See the Villa game the other week where you put Barry out still Christmas but Cole still played the brest of the game.

Edu racked down the back of Scholes legs at one point as well. Is that ok ?

some things don't change.. apparently it was thrown at Fergie while Wenger was talking to him ! How could he miss it.

He also seems to have missed Edu , Cole and Viera making several fouls and playing in the Arsenal spirit.

As I said earlier any diving and bad tackles we did we learnt from Arsenal

all the arsenal fans were saying Rooney dive for a pen and going on about the Ruud challenge.

I was mearly pointing out that Pires has already dived to win a pen last season against Portsmouth at the start of your 49 game run and during it Cole, Viera etc have done just as many bad challenges as the one Ruud did.

if you can do it so can we..

Now Damien, a simple question. Did they or did they not have to cheat to go a whole season unbeaten?

A simple yes or no answer will do.

Arsenal fans, just take losing gracefully.
Don't complain that the penalty was dubious when you have benefited from these in the past.
Don't complain about RIO not being sent off when you have benefited from these decisions in the past.
Don't claim to be by far the better team when you had less shots on target.
Don't claim to have been kicked off the park when your team commited more fouls.

Here take some advice from Mr Carroll ;)

Diving happens - dirty play happens - that's not to say it's acceptable or right but when a team is known for doing it ends up losing a match when the opposition apparently does so, it's hard to sympathise.

I agree, honest! It's just that I think some people (on both sides of the 'argument') are being a little childish about the whole thing.

Actually, speaking as a neutral, I don't think it was that good a match anyway - unfortunately, when you have a game where both teams are kicking lumps out of each other, you tend to find that there's some controversy or other and, on this occasion, I think that Man U shaded it as a team.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if Rooney dived or not (and I think that there was (minimal) contact) - Man U won by 2 goals, not 1 disputed penalty.

Wenger has more excuses than Gerry Francis. And that is saying something.

Arsenal need to be sorted out, they are just a rampant band of thugs, yobs and hooligans now. There isn't another team in the premiership that comes close to being as bad. The players more resemble old school Millwall/Galatasaray fans. [/end gasoline pouring] :)

i think we need to move on from this topic it's just going to cause arguements.

just think back to King Eric we let him get away with murder and defended everything he did just like the arsenal fans are doing with their players.. a true supportter wouldn't do any less.

just like the Pires pen was ok to them last season the rooney one isn't until we get stop being true fans and sit back and look at these things we will just go round in circles

Am I the only one who feels the League Cup has had it's day now.

None of the top sides and even teams like Man City field reserves. It just adds extra games and has no real value anymore.

Because, with the exception of Rangers and Celtic (and possibly Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen), none of the other teams would progress - I can't really see Total Network Solutions beating many teams from the English league (or Scottish for that matter).

Also, IMO, it would be difficult to get all 4 FAs to agree to a format - if we had a cup competition with 92 English league clubs, 40-odd Scottish clubs, 10(ish) Welsh clubs and however many Irish clubs, the competition would go on forever.

Re: [Merged] - Football talk

a good idea but the only real teams we would want added to the comp would be Celtic and Rangers.

Would even having them in make United, Arsenal etc field a stronger side in the hope they might get them in a later round.. i don't think so.

I think it would be a good idea to have a play-off betwen the English and Scottish champs each season. maybe even home and away

But the match ended on a sour note for the Serbia and Montenegro striker. who left the field with blood coming out of a head wound after appearing to have been struck by an object thrown from the crowd.

And trouble flared after the final whistle with riot police moving into a section of the ground occupied by West Ham fans.

Bang goes the 9-match unbeaten run, eh?

They'll be up to, er, 9th, if the three teams behind them win their games in hand. Evidently Mr. Barry hadn't heard that he was allowed to assist the United forward line in whatever manner he saw fit.

Soccernet sum it up better than I could:

Re: [Merged] Football talk

yes it's interesting that since that game both United and Arsenal have had pens in similar situations for and against them where the agrguments we used for the Rooney pen have gone against us.

The Pompey pen didn't look like a pen to me but then there was more contact than in the Rooney oneso I guess that has evened things out.

Not sure how a 6 ft 4 ins player who is as big and strong as Viera could fall over with that contact lst night. I didn't see a kick or a push so how did he fall over. yes someone's hands were on him but with no force to push him over. Wonder if all the Arsenal fans will be up in arms about that one.

Didn't think the pen against them was much either. if you watch Cole he was looking at the ball the whole time he went to swing for it but hit the man who was standing on his blind side, again with very little contact.

I wrote to the FA and UEFA and offered to re-run some of these incidents on a football pitch with them and see if anyone from normal life could fall over and simulate the same sort of fall from these challenges. Both of them never came back to me. How can these people and the refs etc believe that being tripped over makes you roll over 15 times going aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggg.

yeah was a good game but we still looked abit dodgy at the back. Strange how we can turn it on for Europe and big league games but still abit rubbish against Brum, Bolton etc

Hope we do well on Sunday as I got tickets

Mutu has been banned for 7 months.

Quote:

Sacked Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu has been handed a seven-month ban for a positive cocaine test.
Mutu, 25, was at Soho Square for the Football Association hearing and had already said he will not appeal.

An FA statement said Mutu was suspended for seven months "subject to completing a programme of education and rehabilitation".

He was also fined £20,000 and will be subject to target testing throughout the period of the suspension.

The suspension is backdated to start on 25 October.

It will end on 18 May - meaning he will not return to action before next season at the earliest.

Bet he's glad he doesn't play for Man Utd or he could have been looking at a LOT longer....

Shame about Mutu, he had good prospects.

He's probably use his break away from football constructivly.. on the town.

True, but looking at it another way, its a recreational drug not performance enhancing. I also read elsewhere that other premiership players have tested positive for coke and not been suspended so you could say he was harshly treated.

Plus I suppose the way the FA are looking at it, is they have to give a longer sentence for missing the test because if they didn't then players would say "oh i might be positive, i'll just forget about the test and take the shorter sentence."

If he sorts his life out and works hard over the next 7 months he will be a bargain for who ever picks him up on the free.

Rio gets 8 months just for not turning up and Mutu takes drugs and gets 7.. where's the logic in that other than one plays for Man U and the other doesn't.

The logics above, as Gaz pointed out

Mutu hasn't indulged in a performance enhancing drug, he took cocaine which doesn't exactly enhance anything. Rio didn't turn up for a drugs test, which imo indicates he did have some kind of performance enhancing drug.

sherer 04-11-2004 19:51

Re: [Merged] Football talk

Rio took the drugs test 24 hours later. He passed it and I don't thnk waiting a day will have any affect on a drugs test. Also look at Italy and Russia and that where players have been banned for 4 months for using performance drugs.

I think for a recreation drug this ban is probably too long

Or indicates he simply forgot as he had other things on his mind that day, such as moving home...

What paid for his house? His footballing career.

Drugs are took very seriousley in sport, and to an even greater extent in football. If you worked for a office, and forgot to file an important report that lost you a contract you'd be severly reprimanded, same as in football, although to a much greater extent since its higher profile.

well that was well too easy for my boys.....i was rather disapointed that Lazio couldn't pass the ball or play like a team  would of got a better game if we had played a non league team. Any how another 3 points and another step towards lifting the cup :D I would of liked to of seen us score a few more i think it really should of been a t least 4 - 0

Gibson's army is marching on!!!!!

I remember...

Forest 4-0 Middlesbrough

That season we both went up... except well-managed Boro stayed up and have consolidated since, poorly-managed Forest sold the 2nd top scorer, despite the manager and the player himself being against it, sunk like a stone and have never recovered. In fact we get worse!

Makes you wonder what could have been, instead we languish 3rd from bottom. :(

Apparently Jaques Santini has resigned from Spurs for "personal reasons"

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...ur/3987327.stm

One wonders wether it had anything to do with his huge breach of respect with the Nicholson affair...

Re: [Merged] Football talk

yes Lazio were poor, however thats their problem, Middlesbrough the no hopers (apparently) took on what should have been a superior team and showed they were not scared.
Boro havent a hope in hell of lifting the cup, but the higher the profile we can get the better the team can be. I only hope that nothing is taken away from Middlesbrough, af6ter all no matter how poor Lazio were, Middlesbrough played well, and its only Luck on the part of Lazio that Boro didnt whip them of the pitch in a goal fest.

Was funny to See Newcastle grabbing the back pages of the tabloids again like, I'm sorry but who did they beat????? :D

Forest have appointed Mick Harford from Luton (assistant manager) and signed Adam Nowland from West Ham for 250k...

Both should be available for their duties for tomorrow's visit to Molineux...

Things appear to be looking up at last on Trentside :)
