Re: New Grey Remote -- available yet?

I got one of those new blue remotes, the ones with the channel buttons on the face rather than on the side. Its decent enough.

Re: New Grey Remote -- available yet?

are these new remotes still IrDR or do they do RC5 ?

Re: New Grey Remote -- available yet?

The grey remote use the IrDA-ish Two Way TV protocol. It has to, as that's all that 1000s and 2000s understand. The blue version uses RC5.

Well I got one, but sadly it seems to be sans manual.

Can anybody tell me the code for a Sony TV?

Thanks,

Tristan

I can do if someone can claify that the codes are the same for both remotes i.e. the original area codes will work for the ex-cwc remote and visa versa?

Here are the codes anyways:

316, 319, 322, 365, 366, 367, 368, 369 or 370

Good Luck!

Re: New Grey Remote -- available yet?

Cheers Bob, 322 worked nicely, well almost. Pressing * and TV flicks from the cable input on AV1 to the aerial input. Unfortunately it doesn't go back again. I'd rather have it that *-TV cycled through the various inputs on my TV, as a button on my TV remote does. But I'm not really sure if the fault here is NTL's or Sony's (not having a manual, I don't know what the *-TV combination is supposed to do!), so I guess I shouldn't really complain.

Also, further to my original response, while the grey remote uses the IrDA-ish protocol to talk to the STB, it does of course use RC4/RC5 to talk to your TV :)

EDIT: One last thing. Is there is key combination on the remote that functions as "hold" on Teletext pages? Cheers :)

I have the same problem with the AV functions - its sticks at AV1 which is rather annoying - like the input to be RGB so that the picture shifts back to the right postion but never mind.

I don't think there is a combination for HOLD I have tried * with every button and the coloured ones changed the sound style, picture brightness and screen format. The text button activates teletext, and thats about it.

Inb the manual that came with the remote, it did mention that the remote control functions vary from make to make, so it just depends really.

Out of curiosity on an off topic note, do you find that your Sony remote control stops working and even the ntl: remote stops being able to alter the telly? Mine does and its extremely annoying. The set has to be switched off and on before it'll work agen

Re: New Grey Remote -- available yet?

One of the clips has snapped on the battery compartment of my remote so the back is annoyingly loose and frequently falls off all together.

So that we don't waste our time phoning CS for no reason, would this count as a broken/faulty remote in ntl's eyes or not?

Cheers,
Browneggsandham :)

Yes the new remote is readily available on Langley now it has been for a few months, however remember if your old remote is still working you will be charged for a replacement if you say its faulty!

The same remote is available on Bromley now only in grey my friend has been installed a week and she has it!

Re: New Grey Remote -- available yet?

OK, this new remote is really ****ing me off now.

It was working OK for the first couple of weeks - occasionally losing its settings, but it wasn't too bad.

Then 2 days ago, it lost it's settings 3 times in five minutes, but then it was OK again for the whole of yesterday.

Now, today, it won't even re-program:
I hold down *+settings. enter the 4 digit Auto-Search code, press OK and then hold down the standby button, but after about 10 seconds, the STB turns off and the button lights up red, instead of green for 'Searching'.

Does this unfortunate fault happen with all these new remotes, of is it just the unlucky few???

Thanks in advance,
Browneggsandham :)

i dont know the answer to your question however, i have a question of my own,

how come over on DS forums you said the word "****ing", however over on these forums you decided to censor the word?
