Re: Analogue channels over cable line
What about if you make or buy your own cable and just replace the one from the iosolater ;)

thats the point you are modifying their cables , increase it in length too much or introduce noise through bad connections then you are going to cause problems :disturbd: |

Some areas cant even get digital yet. |
Re: Analogue channels over cable line
Some areas will never get digital! Parts of Scotland are out of reach of satellite and digital terrestrial - and clearly not in reach of cable.
But that's not many people. 98% of the country is covered by Digital Satellite (with a 60 or 80cm dish) and 75% of the country is covered by Digital Terrestrial, which is ever increasing and will increase further when analogue is turned off. It's not so much of a worry - most people will be able to get DTT and nearly everybody can already get Digital Satellite. |
Re: Analogue channels over cable line
P.S. This government hope to turn off analogue by 2012. But they won't be here by then, will they.
|
Re: Analogue channels over cable line
I was informed by NTL that they will be turning their Analogue signal off in 2010. I dread the day!! :(
|
Re: Analogue channels over cable line
Huh, I'll be working by then! That's ages away. I wouldn't get too worried.
Any specific date - I think the 24th December would be a good one...! LOL |

Anyway, Labour won't do bu**er all until after the General Election - assuming they get re-elected (only if we're a nation of idiots). If Labour do get back in - then Holy Sh*t will come. |
Re: Analogue channels over cable line
Well, Bush was re-elected..............and I really, REALLY didn't think that would happen.
Anyway, my guess would be that before NTL or telewest switch all analogue areas off, they would have upgraded analogue areas to digital before. (except MATV areas)(not sure what they would do here)(incidently, do telewest have MATV/communial aerial areas??????) EDIT: With regard to the first post, my dad had half the NTL analogue channels through his normal TV (nothing special about his TV) it appears that if your TV has a sensitive enough tuner, then it can lock on. He had Bravo, Sci-fi and others without an STB. |
Re: Analogue channels over cable line
As somebody asked in a previous thread, could somebody post a little piccy, or a description of how this is achieved...
I take it you just introduce another 2 way splitter into the cable that is currently going into your decoder, then continue 1 cable to the decoder, and divert the other new cable into your tv.. ? is that as simple as it is ? do you need any special equipment that you can't buy from Maplins... as far as I can see it sells all I would need for about £10.... . Any help would be appreciated |

trouble is that this is against the terms & conditions of using the service - and although several people have done it, with no problem, done badly it can affect the connection for everyone else in your area. For the above reasons I'm sure this site won't condone posting instructions on how to do it, in the forum, but the principle is as you describe :) |
Re: Analogue channels over cable line
I have a pace PACE DI4001NC digi box. Now I can tune the tv into the box while it's turned on and I get a really good picture. But I was expecting the standard 5 channels to be just as good while the box is turned off. Am I doing something wrong or does the box not rebroadcast these channels?
|
Re: Analogue channels over cable line
The STB can only decode one channel at a time. When it is switched on, this is what it outputs to the RF output. On SOME boxes it is possible to also receive the analogue channels that are also sent down the cable. Usually, channels 1-5 plus a few others are available unencrypted.
Check your box against this table: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/altisuk/temp/stb.xls The feature you need for this is called 'internal bypass'. |
