Re: Ntl:Home win award
Let's face it, the award is meaningless on just straight numerical grounds between large and small company users.
The large company of 3,000,000 only needs 26% of them voting, to beat the small company of 750,000. The small company cannot get more than the large, even with it's 100% votes. Though it is obvious that the small company with 100% voting for it, is better than the large company with only 26% voting for it. The straight numerical vote gives a completely distorted incorrect win to the large company. It is exactly the same with ntl's 'best dial-up award', it is invalid. You can even reverse the question, and the large company will win again. Question - which company is the worst. The large 3,000,000 company above gets 74%, the small 750,000 company gets 0%. The large company of 3,000,000 (ntl) win, at being the worst company. ;) |

it reminds me of those cat food adverts - the one where they claimed "8 out of 10 cats prefer wiskas" - this slogan had to be changed when they found that the people who were surveyed were only people that had actually purchased wiskas! ie. they cleverly asked their clipboard people to only interview people who were walking out of the supermarket with wiskas in their trolley! so the slogan was changed to "8 out of 10 cat owners who expressed a preference said their cats prefered it". so your Broadband survey is probably meaningless unless you survey only people who have experienced at least more than 1 broadband supplier - otherwise they are voting for NTL or whoever because they are happy with it rather than because it is the best they have experienced. |
Re: Ntl:Home win award
We don't know if the votes were weighted, and whether subscriber numbers were taken into account. However, there is the possibility that people do actually like the ntl: service. I've only ever had one outage in all the time I've been with them.

Re: Ntl:Home win award
Well, I don't know how accurate the Digital Spy results are, but the table of complaints that OFCOM (or Oftel as they used to be) published should be an accurate indicator. They published a table of the most complained about ISP for broadband and, you guessed it, it was BT. NTL were merely average.

Re: Ntl:Home win award
The only way to get a fair result from this is to get one user in every area of the country to try all the internet providers in that area and rate them by pionts. This wont even work as not all isp services are available in all areas. Rodd is 100% correct - these results are totaly useless.
If I held a poll entitled " do you like beer " and stopped 1000 people outside a pub asking them to vote I am not going to get a high number of NO replies am I ?????? A waste of time and money !!! |
Re: Ntl:Home win award
www.adslguide.org do a monthly report on feedback from customers of various suppliers - NTL dont top the list but then NTL customers wouldnt be attracted to an ADSL site!

Re: Ntl:Home win award
ok so far in this thread, i have seen people that cannot accept the fact, that NTL can get it right, why is it so hard to realise there broadband product, is superior to telewests this is not about CS its about the service itself

The numerous other smaller excellent ADSL companies offering BB (and so easy to switch to), are merely using BT lines, and are not BT BB itself, so the focus is more than just between BT and ntl. :) |

how can this indicate that NTL are better than broadband? - unless of course all who voted have experienced both services. how can this indicate that NTL have a better product than Telewest? You'll be telling me next you prefer Coke even though you've never tasted Pepsi? |

if it was telewest or BT winning the vote, im sure many would be singing the praises of those compaines, and saying 'NTL should take note' Quote:
for the person who repped me that i have 'no facts' check this thread quite a few on here are happy with NTL on the whole http://forum.nthellworld.co.uk/showthread.php?t=5324 |

So, BT got more complaints per 1000 customers than NTL (thereby nullifying any size difference). Having said that, the article doesn't mention other ADSL suppliers, any of which could be better or worse than NTL. |
Re: Ntl:Home win award
OMG people are arguing over some little survey's results. You really should find something better to do with your time people!

A direct comparison of speed, reliability and service, could be a better indicator? Note the last low reliability and service reading of ntl. They are getting worse. http://www.adslguide.org.uk/isps/com...action=Compare //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Quote:
The poster suggested that the results would be shot down. We obliged. ;) |
