well. i've dropped my 'alternative' proxy and it does indeed seem to be working at last! hoorah, well done that ntl tech who fixed it! ( 'bout time though)

Thing is---when it works properley for five mins you realise what you should be getting for your £35 per mth and just how you only get it for a tiny amount of the time.

blimey..look at me, i'm trying to say well done for once and yet still ntl makes me moan....... bed time i think

Your lucky.

In luton the xparent proxy's have been down for months. It takes 4 minutes to load the bbc.co.uk home page if I use inkitomi1/2/3/4. I have to use bedford's proxy to get even moderate web speed.

Big improvement today when using automatically-assigned proxies. Still not brilliant, but not bad.

ntl responded to an email complaint I sent a few days ago too:
We are sorry you have been experiencing problems with this facility. There is some work being done at present to upgrade our network capacity. Unfortunately, while this work is going on there will be unavoidable degradation to some aspects of the service. We are making every effort to minimise the impact of this, and I can assure you we will restore to normal service as soon as possible.
I guess this is standard stuff, but at least they acknowledge there's a problem.

They haven't actually 'admitted' that there is a problem though have they? ;)

All they have said is that there is work going on in your area to 'upgrade network capacity', & they are suggesting that this is the reason for your problems. :dozey:

Normal BS from the kings of lame BS excuses I'm afraid.

Yep you weren't the only ones. We here in Bedford had the same thing happening to us. And after months of hell we sent an email off saying as much within two hours the net was faster than it's been for months and (touch wood) is still faster. It didn't affect the actual speeds as such although we averaged about 103kbs but browsing was impossible for a while there. and yesterday morning it gave up the ghost nearly altogether this was when we got fed up and sent our email. Oh well we can but hope that whatever the problem was they HAVE sorted it. As the status page was premiture thats for sure. They almost lost another good customer! anyhow MERRY XMAS to all! And to any of the tech's here, Thank you very much! you now have a very happy surfer!
