Cedega is subscription supported, but is well worth the money, and its not expensive!

As to the price, if I recall correctly it's £5pm, which I think is actually quite expensive: for a year's subscription, you can buy a copy of XP Home or Windows 2000, and never have a single compatability worry. That said, it does work very well from what I hear, and plenty of people are willing to pay for it. And I'd imagine there is a certain feeling of satisfaction to be gained from playing Half-Life 2 on Linux, completely against Valve's wishes... |

btw there is a CVS version of cedega, it does not have the interface as the subscription based one, but it does the job, ( there is a guide on the ubuntu forums, for installing it very very quickly and simply )

Quick question for those who do use Cedega... Does the subscription-based model prevent you from playing if you don't subscibe any longer? Or could you theoretically pay your subscription for a month, download the packages and install them, then cancel your subscription but continue to use Cedega?
I heard that subscribers can vote on which games they want converted next, but are there any other reasons (apart from supporting a good cause obviously :)) why people don't subscribe for only one month? Also, something completely different... what are peoples' opinions on the Linux community? I've always found Linux user communities to be much more closely-knit than, for example, Windows communities. I often think that this could be because Linux users understand that everyone has to learn from somewhere, and that the vast majority of Linux users come to it with a Microsoft background, so they have to unlearn certain factors first. Whereas Windows users often seem to assume that everyone should automatically know everything about how Windows works, without ever thinking about how you learn the stuff in the first place. It's almost like when Linux users flame someone they just tell them to rtfm, but when Windows users flame someone they get a lot more personal and insulting, and often act very childishly. Anyone else noticed this? |
