Re: tvdrive hdtv connection
Is all HD output from the TVdrive encoded in HDCP, what about the BBC stuff?

You can still watch BBC HD through the component connections without HDCP. Currently there is however some HD videos in filmflex HD VOD which can only be watched through HDMI. -Chris |
Re: tvdrive hdtv connection
I'm waiting for a V+ installation to happen in a couple of weeks and was going to buy a Component to VGA cable to pass the video to a Toshiba projector (TDP TW 90) which will accept component through the vga connections.
From what I've read above this means that copy protected hd content won't be viewable - is that right? Also will the quality be worse than it would from the HDMI connection with a converter (the cost of which is significantly more than a cable - about £150 upwards, I think)? The component/vga connection on the projector has the usual HD resolutions (720p/1080i) so I would have thought the quality would be okay. I was just about to get a componet to vga cable but might have to rethink if it will limit what I can watch. |
Re: tvdrive hdtv connection
You won't have access to copyrighted stuff. VGA cannot carry the copyright signals.

Re: tvdrive hdtv connection
Thanks for coming back to me Stuart.
So, without specific hd inputs on the back of the projector is there any way to get the copy protected hd content into the projector in hd? Do DV signal converters allow this? I was hoping not to have to fork out for one as the sort of thing that I think I'll need is about £150!! |
Re: tvdrive hdtv connection
AFAIK, DVI converters cannot carry the copyright signals either.

Re: tvdrive hdtv connection
mmm...I might have to go with the component to VGA cable for now then and come up with a plan B at a later stage. Thanks again.
