Re: Watch on analogue cable
Thought it would be against T&Cs sollp, since your connecting an unothorised device.

Methinks it would be the right time for DaggaDagga to look at one sollp's profile ;)

Just trying to lend a hand to someone who needs an aerial and can't put a rooftop aerial in. Saw a useless friend's NTL modem the other week. He'd moved it and needed to shorten the coax cable to tidy it up, so he cut it and stuffed the inner core into the back of the modem. Luckily he'd only cut a branch from the splitter to the STB and modem, so we could get a pre-made F-type cable to replace the severed one (after I told him to buy one). Anyway, the point is that it had been like this for weeks and nobody had complained about the network collapsing or anything. I suspect that NTL's network is a lot more tolerant than some think. Surely they must have some kind of isolation between subscriber connections? |

Re: Watch on analogue cable
Quite right - as the cable plugs into a mains-powered box there must be a theoretical risk of this happening.
There were recent news stories of freeview boxes accidentally broadcasting a coastguard SOS call from people's rooftop aerials. Even the approved Pace boxes and the modems must send something back up the wire, especially if they go faulty. If an NTL engineer unplugs a modem or STB (I guess they do this without disconnecting from the street cabinet first) then there's an unterminated line to generate a load of reflections. ---------- Post added at 13:33 ---------- Previous post was at 13:24 ---------- ..and anyway - back to the original point of the thread. I think we've established that connecting an NTL cable to a TV is against NTL's T&Cs. This is not the same as against the law. You don't go to prison for breaking the terms of a contract - it's a purely civil matter. As this homeowner has never seen or signed NTL's T&Cs then they are irrelevant. The cable's on his premises, so I'd feel quite at ease about plugging it into a TV, especially where there is no aerial and no way of installing one. The reality is that nobody will ever know, and no harm will be done to anyone. |
Re: Watch on analogue cable
BUT
My issues.... I AM an NTL customer I want a second TV with just the major 5 channels... Can I do this without upsetting NTL :P |

Belive me when i say that it does cause issues on the network, wel all want to enjoy fast upload and download speeds when using the internet and we all want to have the TV service working correctly, So why cause the problems then blame NTL for a poor service. ---------- Post added at 20:54 ---------- Previous post was at 20:50 ---------- Quote:
