If your printer has print heads that are not attached to the cartridge (sometimes called RPH, remote print heads) then don't use anything other than manufacturer inks, or it might get expensive (and I have seen it happen, as these inks don't contain the necessary chemicals that the printer uses to clean the heads automatically, so they clog).

In the case of the Epson R200, a complete set of Epson ink's can be 95% of the cost of a new printer  . So you have to ask if its worth risking 3rd party inks (I myself have never had any issues with them - the odd clog happens just as often with Epson inks), or simply throw the printer away and buy a new one when the inks supplied with the printer run out.

Having said that; none of the 3rd party inks I've tried are quite as good for photo's as the Epson inks, but considering how often I need top quality prints its better for me to just keep a set of Epson inks on standby [fortunately the Epson R200 cartridges don't have sponges and are sealed air-tight when not installed] and just change when needed.

My old Lexmark (Z25) cost me £25 and a set of new carts was £40. Of course, I've condemned that to the attic and now have a HP PSC 1410 which costs less to run - and an upgrade as well!
