Re: Ebay and feedback
Whilst I appreciate the concept of feedback, and it's nice to get it, is there actually any obligation to give it?
I have one instance when I bought something where I made a concious decision not to give feedback. In that instance the seller sent me the wrong item, it was rectified, but it was still unneeded aggravation. I suppose I could have left a neutral comment, but I chose not to. That is my prerogative. |
Re: Ebay and feedback
it's a chicken/egg issue. you want to leave some for someone but dont want to in case they're too ignorant to leave you some (provided the transaction went well).
|
Re: Ebay and feedback
Don't agree about chicken/egg issue. Payment comes before goods are sent in every case, so buyers expect to get feedback on payment.

So, by that, a seller should wait until the buyer has received the goods and is happy with them - which generally means waiting for feedback from the buyer. :erm: |

all we need now is a posting from EGG!!!

Personally I give seller feedback at the same time I ship the goods. It is easier that way, you don't need to go into ebay to just leave feedback. On this subject what is ebay protocol for cheques. I wait 7 business days from depositing a cheque before I will send goods. I get moaned at by buyers for this despite saying goods will be send when funds are cleared. |

Re: Ebay and feedback
The most expensive item I sold I had no feedback for and this got me concerned because once positive feedback is left by the buyer its some sort of proof the item arrived intact, I was worried a chargeback would be issued. So it is annoying although it wont affect the % rating.

Re: Ebay and feedback
I have to say, i disagree with some on this thread.
As an eBay seller, i leave feedback once it is left for me by the buyer. This way i know the item has been received okay, and that the transaction is now complete. It's a very common situation, where the seller will leave feedback as soon as payment is received, meaning the buyer is 'safe' to do what they want. I.e file for a chargeback, leave a neg, send abusive mails etc.. in the knowledge that their feedback will not be jeopardised. As an eBay buyer, i always leave feedback on receiving and inspection of the item. This way the seller knows i have received it, and that the transaction is complete. Also, of course, there is no obligation to leave feedback, though i do agree that it is very much a big part of the eBay system, i always leave feedback. Though there was one occasion where i didn't. The item i received took a little longer than i expected, so i chose not to leave feedback, as i didn't mind enough to leave a neut or a neg, but also didn't feel like giving a positive. Now, that person hassled me for feedback. If anyone ever did it again i would just leave them a juicy neg with the comment "Here is the feedback you so desperately wanted". Harsh i know, but some people go way OTT when demanding feedback and sending FeedBack Reminders every day. When buying on selling on eBay you need to accept that not everyone will leave you feedback. My feedback should be up to around 130 by now, but it's only 115 because some people don't play the game:D |

Note, I don't usually wait for the seller to provide feedback first. I realise that as long as they've got their money, then effectively the transaction is complete - barring any chargeback/complaint/feedback issues. So it seems reasonable to me to provide feedback first. It just narks me when I don't get any back. Particularly if I've gently reminded them. That's just plain rude and selfish. The seller with whom I had the last transaction seems to basically have given up on giving feedback to buyers from last Dec, despite continuing to receive feedback themselves. We're talking dozens of people who've had no feedback from this seller. That is just wrong. That's not an odd one not giving feedback. |
Re: Ebay and feedback
I've purchased something a couple of weeks back which I immediately got feedback from the seller. It arrived in a cardboard box with no packing so was either damaged during transit and/or before packing. The seller maintained that transit caused it and initially offered I return it, but as it would have put me out of pocket I insisted they arrange collection.
(This saga is all recorded in another thread) The upshot is, on Tuesday after waiting a week for progress I commenced a 'complaint' with paypal using the resolution process and the seller refunded me in full within a few hours and with appologies. So I am in this position where I can do what I like feedback wise and not affect my feedback - if I dont assist the seller in them getting their product back or whatever they can not punish me with feedback. As I spent time pushing for a refund and stress worrying that my £100 had been swindled out of me I could now express myself freely on their feedback at no cost to myself. Worth bearing in mind, if you're a seller! |

Just seems to be good manners to me, I know that there are both buyers and sellers who just wait for the other to act first, but would sellers ship goods before receiving payment? - of course not, so why do so many object to leaving feed back upon receiving payment? The argument about buyers being free to leave negative feedback can be applied to sellers once a buyer has left positive feedback. There just doesn't seem to be any mutual trust. Pity. |

I believe eBay could possibly agree with the buyer leaving it first, seeing as their automated 'Dispatch Notification' email in Selling Manager says this: Quote:

Re: Ebay and feedback
yeah buyer should leave feedback first, I have no problem with that system. I think it is far riskier for the seller then the buyer since chargeback's can be issued.
