So I go to Ethereal and set it sniffing and it's see's all the beautiful ARP of the internet and the occational DHCP offer or my PC going "DNS!" every so offen when something like AV trys to update. Seriously p!553d by this point so I uninstall the AV and Zone Alarm (Windows Firewall has been disabled as a personal 'default' along with ncacn and dcom) Still no luck! Any idea's? Gonna reboot in linux now and see if I get any better luck. Si ps I've heard rummours about MAC logging at the ISP's end. Would I need to register a new NIC? if so do you know the uri?

You just cannot swap, from usb to ethernet, and think everything will be ok!
When you installed the software you had to choose one or the other.
If you just run the software, and follow the instructions for an ethernet connection, you should be fine as i swapped over some time ago.
Thinking back you may have to have a new email address and you will notice the speed difference as networks were ment to run with ethernet
connections!!!

I don't know the Telewest software, but I doubt you do need any special software to switch to ethernet as this would prevent any non-PC devices (such as Macs, Routers and consoles) from working with the Cable Modem.

I seriously doubt Telewest would want to potentially alienate a large percentage of their market (even though not many people own macs, a lot of people own Routers and/or consoles & would be a huge loss to Telewest if they went).

As i stated, in my last thread, it's either usb or ethernet.
If you have a router switch it off and do the following.
If Telewest are no use close down PC and switch off power to cable modem.
Unplug the USB connections and follow the instructions, that came with the cable modem, usung the cat5 cable and the lan card, which comes with most PC's.
I have upgaded to 10MB and am running with ethernet no problem, and its faster!

Both is the operative word in that sentence, ie I AM power cycling BOTH the modem and PC. The modem's as a Surfboard 5100 Motorola, If I'd have saidd that in the first place I'm sure you'd have got my drift.
