It doesn't automatically find it.

Sorry, should have made it clear.. You go through the post from the top (click Add printer, then go through the Port stuff). If the printer is already installed, right click it, select "Properties" then Ports and go through the post (minus the add printers bit).

If you're talking about when you said to right click on printer and add port, I can't see a printer in the list!

I am assuming you are going through the "Add Printer" wizard. It asks which port you want to use FIRST, before you specify a printer.

You need to look that up on the router's admin page.

There is an IP address that you enter into the browser to access the admin page, look in the manual that came with your router for the IP address and username and password.

If the printer is already installed, you can just right on it, select "Properties" and then "ports". Tick the port you created as a result of my Previous post.

If it isn't, just complete the "Add Printers" wizard you started to create the new port.

Failing that, is it an HP all-in-one? Try running the setup program that comes with that. I know that the software that come with the HP Business printers is good at finding the printer on the network, and it configures all the ports and printers automatically.

Also, did you look at the Safecom site? They may have software on there to help.

bit of a bump, but I got one of those cheap safecom routers with built in printserver, recently & Stu's info was invaluable in getting it working.

the idea was to network a new HP7450 Photosmart printer. However the supplied software didn't appear to work?? - 'wreset.exe' also seemed to knock out my default printer, as well?

Following Stu's advice has, at least got both of my printers working - the challenge now is to see if Mr Gaz can use the new one, too, as well as her default printer :)

At least I can now print on both printers, myself, thanks Stu :tu:
