I used to work for one of the leading networking (NIC mainly) manus and their training was absymal.

So dont blame Tech Support folk all the time, thats just not fair!

i couldnt comment on the current training they employ at ntl as i've not worked there for over a year...but when i started there, 4yrs ago, the training was excellent. But...saying that, i believe that anyone taking a role in tech support, would need a little bit tech knowledge to be a good advisor. its all well and good sitting through 3 or 4 weeks of training.. but if at the end of the day, if the advisor hasnt been able to comprehend the training, then maybe that person should be allocated another role...or have extended training. there was a girl on my team, great lass too...got on with everyone, but i was amazed after 2 and a half years...she emailed the whole team on one occaision to ask wether the cable modem had its own power supply !!!

Things might have changed since I was there but ntl don't require you to have any technical knowledge whatsoever - they'll train you up to learn things their way and try to build you up like that.

One of the guys on my old team had been a coach driver for National Express for 30 years and didn't even know how to operate a mouse properly - funnily enough he went on to be one of the best techs on the team :disturbd:

I'd have to agree with you russ, i shoulda mentioned another example of one of my other team mates, he had not used a pc until he started, at the same time as myself...he's now one of the best techs i know.
i think it might just come down to technical comprehension

Possibly it's because their approach has not been 'polluted' by other methods. I can see the benefits of only having learned things "the ntl way".
