Rate would be £150 per day if it was that large a project (i'm cheap) The hardest part is gettig the content right the actual design does not take too long, so 4 days depending on how much they redid. £600 bargain:D

And the fact that the order PDF has not even been bothered to be edited from the print version, it still has the cut lines etc on it.

You are indeed cheap ... even our own IT dept is more expensive than that when they re-charge other departments internally. :D

OK, so if you had to spend extra time ensuring browser compatibility, how much more would you quote?

This isn't just web browsing, this is Marks and Spencer web browsing

Its not too hard to make sites that are cross browser compatible. Even I can manage that.

As for cheap we hire our guys out at £500 per day plus expenses etc. I do web design for fun and in my spare time (geek).

Fair enough. What I'm trying to arrive at of course is an estimate of how much M&S might have saved by corner-cutting on their browser compatibility, and how much they are going to lose as a result of non-PC/IE users getting no joy from the site.

8oz Self raising flour
8oz Butter

Why would I wish to put small furniture wheels in my daughter's cake? :p: :D

Actually we would happily bake a cake ourselves, we just want it professionally decorated. I have no confidence in my sugarcraft abilities.

Blimey I never looked at the prices, those are dear cakes

Is there nowhere local you can go?

It wasn't funny the first time, but I'll try again.

These aren't just Birthday Cakes, these are Marks and Spencer Birthday Cakes.

It's also good to see they are not capable of building the ordering into their checkout functionality!

Yes, we found a humble little baker shop in Dumbarton Road, in Glasgow's West End. His website worked just fine. :D

You could buy it from Waitrose (they are nicer than M&S):

At a guess I would say they spent about 10k on the wbsite, design programming and putting it all together is a time consuming job. But they have obviously been shaftered as any good web design house has proof readers and combatability/usability test...
