Ours will go on when we are uncomfortable without it. The thermostat is set to 19 as it is in the hallway. Not the best place but since we have an open fire in the front room so that would spoil things siting it there. My preference would be to have it warm enough to be in shorts and T-shirt but the heating never gets that warm enough.

Our heating goes on as and when required, first thing in the morning for 2 hours, then approx 4 till 8pm.:)

I rarely wear trousers, even in snow. It's the tips of my fingers that suffer the most in cold weather so I have insulated gloves. Bit weird shorts, jumper and gloves :LOL: anywho indoors I'm in shorts and t-shirt comfortably with my thermostat at 15.5. The gas man tells me the thermostat is always a couple of degrees out so once the boiler has fired up and satisfied the thermostat it's like 17. My thermometer localed where my thermostat is reads between 21-24c :shrug:

Something is really off there, likely your thermostat is reading way below what it should be and your house is alot warmer than you think and likely 24c, but it depends on your body fat too I guess. My Hive thermostat is currently set to 20c while I am at home and it's comfortable in just a T-shirt and jeans and when the house is empty or I'm sleeping the heating goes OFF, no point wasting Gas. In colder months the heating will get turned up to 21-22c and a jumper goes on, I couldn't set it at 24c I'd melt.

Treat yourself to a new wall thermostat.

I've also got a crazy neighbour that wears shorts all year around but he's from New Zealand and will spend 6 months there from November.

Burnt my foot on the radiator yesterday morning reaching out from my bed to see how hot my radiator gets in 5mins!!! I can't believe the difference my new boiler has made to heating the house.

I've had the thermostat checked for faults. To be sure it was replaced but no faults were found.

Crazy is good. No need to dress up like an Eskimo :D

Something is off if thermostat doesn't match the thermometer though, my new Hive thermostat matches pretty much exactly unless the thermometer has a radiator next to it.

What's your annual gas usage like out of interest and are there other people living in your house when you're not home?

[That's what I thought but these things are not accurate according to qualified people so I've learnt to live with the whooping 5 degree difference. My thermostat is a Honeywell round spinning thing. I was thinking of a digital thermostat but again the installers 10 years ago said go for the round thing. I'll mention it when my annual service occurs. :tu:

Don't know of annual gas. I'll have to look at a bill. Just me. I wish there was a cat tenant but I haven't got another kitty since my childhood one died :(

My Honeywell got replaced with a Tado smart thermostat and after boiler upgrade a Hive smart thermostat, I highly recommend it, it's great to turn off the heating when you leave home and when you're on the train coming back from Brighton turn it on again via your phone if it tells you the temperature is too cold.

It is possible your dial on the Honeywell has slipped it's position and you should be able to pull the plastic dial off and put it back on again in a different location so it reads more accurately, I know this as it happened to mine.

Older central heating is affected by 2 forms of hysteresis.

The first is when the thermostat cuts off the heating when it reaches the desired temperature, but the hot water in the radiator continues to warm the room.

The second is due to mechanical thermostats having a lag between their on and off conditions. This can get worse over time as internal springs and magnets become less effective.

A cheap electronic thermostat overcomes this due to it using a thermocouple.

The boiler cuts out when the thermostat clicks and vice versa temperature low temperature high. There is no lag. The boiler stops heating but circulation continues. Just the gap in temperature reading is of an issue

:LOL: I just realised I don't have home broadband, I tether from the device that is with me on my travels so remote control isn't an option. I will still chase an upgrade.

My heating goes on when I get too cold. I start with an extra layer etc, a blanket or body warmer but when you don't have much meat on your bones you don't have much choice.
