The court has ruled that there is public interest in naming Axel Muganwa Rudakubana. He turns 18 next week in any case.

Not a guarantee but probability is Christian. Certainly, no evidence available to date indicates Muslim as the EDL supporters have suggested.

The claim was being made that as the parents were Christian, their son couldn't possibly be a Muslim. I gave an example to disprove that claim. Others examples exist.
Nothing was meant one way or the other.

Not that their son couldn't be a Muslim, but the probability being that he wasn't.

How is it relevant ? There is no indication this attack was based on religion.

Some people want it to be, and are disappointed when it isn’t…

I just don't understand it, these were innocent little girls, what possible motive could there be?

I’m going to stick my neck out and say the person who did this is soaked in online incel culture (boys and young men, don’t know how to be attractive to girls, get sucked into communities where they are taught to hate them instead, and blame them for all their unhappiness - incel = ‘involuntary celibate’).

Taylor Swift and her fans (‘swifties’) represent everything incels hate most, they are happy, strong, and promote a positive image of empowered femininity to girls and young women.

Unless the perpetrator personally knew someone there and had a personal grudge, then it seems most likely to me that it was targeted simply because the event had ‘Taylor Swift’ in its title.

:(

It’s a decent shout.

I can’t believe a young man would undertake such a heinous attack totally on his own volition, there has to have been an external influencing factor driving him to this.

Either that, or he is a completed nut job and evil personified.

The parental situation is a bit ambiguous at the moment, in so far as we know he was born to Rwandan immigrant parents in Cardiff and later moved to Southport, But where are the parents now?

Did they move to Southport? are they still with him and in his life? Does he have siblings?

I think his family life may be key to understanding his actions

It’s reported that he lives with his parents and his older brother in a semi-detached just outside Southport (Banks) - they all moved there in 2013.

I’m going to bet nuts. Probably been on the desk of some underpaid and overworked social worker for the best part of a decade.

Again a decent shout, if he was on any kind of register, it’ll come out in due course.

I suspect you're right but may not have made it to that social worker's desk. Time will tell.

Oh …….turns out he was a groomed budding Islamist.

News just being released before the budget ,,,cough,,,,,that’s been sat on for months.

I wonder if any of the keyboard jockeys jailed for suggesting he was a terrorist and stirring up hatred online will be released?

The Southport attack remains not classified as a terror attack, which it now almost certainly was.

Kennedy* said: “You may have seen speculation online that the police are deciding to keep information from the public. That is certainly not the case. We have been given extensive guidance from the Crown Prosecution Service in relation to what we can say publicly to ensure the integrity of the court proceedings are protected and therefore we are restricted in what we can share with you while proceedings are live.”

She added: “My plea is to be patient. Don’t engage in rumour and speculation. Don’t believe everything you read on social media. We must not lose sight of the families of Elsie, Bebe and Alice, who are still grieving and the other families of those victims who were present at Hart Street on the 29th of July.”

A former prosecutor said terror-related investigations often took much longer than other cases given the nature of the material. Explaining why it can take months for terror-related charges to be brought, they said: “You have to find things, translate things, prove that he had possession of it, who else had access to any equipment. You’ve got to be able to put his fingers on the document or his eyes on the document and that’s the challenge.”
