Re: New PC Build Enquiry

When my son needed a new PC, he went to an online PC building company, tweaked a few of their offerings, was given warnings and advice about certain selections, and finally had the spec he wanted.

He then tried to source the same components online, and was unable to get anywhere near as low as the final price offered by the PC builder.

So either the component vendors have huge mark-ups, or the builder has very narrow profit margins.

or using grey imports or refurbish stock. I have never found that myself. Scan for example have the online builder and they mark up the build for over £100 and that is just a mobo ram cpu and cooler bundle.

The one thing I do like about Scan is their Scan Protect. I paid £25 I think to insure £850 worth of products for 30 days and it included user error damage. When you have 1700 tiny gold pins and you have to install a heavy cpu it is worth the insurance imo. After 23 years building my butt still puckers up when I install a CPU and drop the latch hahaha

You will soon be able to unpucker as land grid array (LGA) takes over.

SKT 1700 is LGA. You drop a cpu on it and there will be a number of bent pins and a nightmare to straighten. Put the CPU in wrong and latch it same result.

Do not get me wrong so far I have never broken a CPU or Socket but I pucker when I install one and when I first hit the power button hahaha
