Given that McCarthy was quite rude about the Dems in the previous session, if they wanted favours they could probably exact a significant price. Although I suspect any suggestion he might have been talking to them might just bring the GOP lunatic fringe back on-side. If they don’t ultimately decide to play king maker and vote for McCarthy they’ll walk away from this debacle with absolutely nothing, which would be politically amateurish.
