Yeah, the delivery apps often add a few quid onto the items themselves as well as the delivery charge.

The commission taken by Just Eat and the like is in the 25%-30% ballpark which will drive up prices. It also creates an auditable source of income which HMRC take an interest in that less scrupulous food establishments might have not declared.

Yeah, my local Chinese (which is excellent) will not be swayed by any of this. They still only take cash, they have they own delivery guy too, but you have to pay in cash.

But it hasn't hurt their business, people still go there in their droves.

Same here, easily the best one in the town and has been for decades. Suspect those that can survive on their established reputations can do so, but new entrants need to do something to get seen.

My biggest problem with the likes of Uber, Uber Eats and Just Eat is that these massive players are trying to impose themselves as the middleman people you and the business and/or driver. Going direct where possible is better.

Uber Taxis basically operated at a loss to keep prices down and drive out local taxi firms who needed to make a profit to stay afloat and pay taxes. The idea was that once they cornered the market then they could use their power to put up prices whilst screwing over drivers because where else are they going to go?

It's all silicon valley tech bros and venture capitalists trying to squeeze out every single possible penny up to their very small amount of billionates at the expense of all of us.
