Yeah, the delivery apps often add a few quid onto the items themselves as well as the delivery charge.

The commission taken by Just Eat and the like is in the 25%-30% ballpark which will drive up prices. It also creates an auditable source of income which HMRC take an interest in that less scrupulous food establishments might have not declared.

My biggest problem with the likes of Uber, Uber Eats and Just Eat is that these massive players are trying to impose themselves as the middleman people you and the business and/or driver. Going direct where possible is better.
Uber Taxis basically operated at a loss to keep prices down and drive out local taxi firms who needed to make a profit to stay afloat and pay taxes. The idea was that once they cornered the market then they could use their power to put up prices whilst screwing over drivers because where else are they going to go? It's all silicon valley tech bros and venture capitalists trying to squeeze out every single possible penny up to their very small amount of billionates at the expense of all of us. |
