Is he going as a contestant or one of the challenges? I don't watch it so that's my knowledge exhausted.

I don't watch it normally, but I may make an exception and give Matt my undying support by voting for him in each challenge. This will give him maximum opportunity to get his "message" across, whatever that may be. That's why he's taken leave from his £60K job after all.

It's amazing he just decides he can take a holiday from his job like this. Even has the temerity to have allies (i.e probably him) brief the press that he can do this because he 'won't be in government anymore'. Shows the contempt he has for the job he has now. Complete chancer who only wants to be an MP if he gets a top job.

Here’s hoping.

He’s convinced himself he’s going on a book tour or some sort of political campaign but he’s actually taking a holiday during term time for which he is getting paid by ITV as well as getting his MP’s salary. Meanwhile back in his constituency he’ll be paying someone else to handle his caseload, then claiming the cost back from the taxpayer.

Utterly appalling behaviour.

Any MP who does this one would hope they would get their comeuppance next time voters go to the ballot box.

I don't think he'll stay for the next election.

It's possible in his head this is the first step of his riding back into front-line politics via public demand but more likely he has given up after not getting into the cabinet again and will instead try to be a celebrity.

Of course he doesn't even have a whip now

If there's a public vote to decide his PPE supplier against venomous creatures in the bushtucker trials then I'm all in! But it may be an expensive year when I vote for a pub landlord as preferred supplier multiple times!

Are MPs not allowed to take holidays or maternity leave?
It was ok for Gordon Brown to go gallivanting around the world. Check the register of MPs interests for 2010/11.

I didn’t realise Hancock was having a baby?

Couldn’t he have his holidays during one of the Parliamentary Recesses?

btw, nice whataboutism - strange how you mentioned Brown from over 10 years ago, and not Johnson from last month…

Really? I thought it was fair enough to call out an attempt to equate childbirth with appearing on an ITV gameshow.
