He's untouchable, I'm sorry to say. Too much ethnicity in
London to disturb the political balance.

Interestingly, the Police Commissioner and Conservative candidate for London Mayor in 2021, Shaun Bailey, resigned from his position as chair of the London Assembly's police and crime committee after a photo emerged of him attending a Christmas party in breach of the Covid regulations at the time.

London is quite Labourish. They have a default advantage. The Tories need better candidates although it's been made harder for them with the direction the Tories took since Brexit.

Does London (or anywhere) need a Police Commissioner?

Seems to me they're just a figurehead and scapegoat for when things go wrong, and don't really know much about actual policing . . . and it shows :p:

'No faith' Sadiq Khan hell as major Met Police body declares no confidence in London Mayor

https://www.express.co.uk/news/polit...n-Mayor-latest

The Metropolitan Police Federation declared no confidence in the Labour politician after Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick was forced out of her position last week.

The body accused the London Mayor of "scaremongering" and "undermining" the trust in the police with his constant swipes.

In a strongly-worded statement, Mr Khan was blamed for using Dame Cressida as a scapegoat to distract from his own performance.

The Police Commissioner in London is the equivalent of Chief Constable in other Police forces - it’s not the elected Police & Crime Commissioner as in other areas (that role is covered by an Assistant Mayor in London).

Must have been why Johnson got elected twice…

Stupid thing for them to rally behind. She had to go. This is on the same day a Senior Member of that same Federation is facing an investigation for allegedly sharing details of an interview given by Sarah Everard's killer. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-60341306

Quite right. It's more jobs for the boys and wholly ineffective in terms of outcomes.
