Re: Reacher
Just finished it and I loved it, should easily be another season with its 8.8 rating.

Re: Reacher
I watched all 8 episodes over a 2 day period, I don't usually bother with these Netflix/Amazon series things as they're often too 'wishy washy' and tend to go overboard with the romantic interludes and moral overtones a little too often.
I thought I'd give it a go as I've read the books and enjoyed them . . doesn't everyone like a lone hero with attitude that takes on the bad guys? I thought the series was a let down to be honest, especially after episode 2 or 3, far too much of the romantic stuff getting in there, and also spoiled in places by the 'atmospheric' music almost overpowering the dialogue . . . something that's now generic to most things on TV. I guess my expectations are too high, which is why I rarely watch a TV series or Film if I've read and enjoyed the book. |
Re: Reacher
Good to know i am not going to be in the minority when i watch it :)

Re: Reacher
We could add a poll to all these TV show threads to get a better idea of who enjoys them or who thinks it's not so great.
So far 2 people in this thread don't like it with 1 of them not seen it yet. |
Re: Reacher
No lets accept people's opinions for once.I can't see a poll adding anything to this thread.

Re: Reacher
I'm enjoying it so far, only on 3rd episode. The dialogue is really bad in places, often really cringy (such as '3 nights ago the moon was 26 degrees further to the east' etc etc) and has some really bad acting in places. Other than that I will probably finish it.

Re: Reacher
not really otherwise the only stuff I would be able to watch is documentaries. My realism factor isn't about whether the story/universe/world is realistic, it is about whether the events that transpire in that established world are realistic.
I could give you millions of examples but one will prove my point quite nicely. All my friends rant and rave about The Orville and say it is more like Star Trek than Discovery is. I tried it and couldn't get into it for two reasons. You for all intents and purposes have highly trained Starfleet officers who are constantly making inappropriate jokes either on the bridge during tense situations or during diplomatic talks. It wouldn't happen. Secondly, the sets and especially the bridge was too plain and simplistic and you can't believe it has all the necessary controls and functionality for a starship. It felt more like Red Dwarf to me than Star Trek. It looks like they have changed it for season 3. https://www.cableforum.uk/images/local/2022/02/1.jpg https://www.cableforum.uk/images/local/2022/02/2.jpg It is all about watching something and immersing yourself in that universe and having things make sense based on the rules they establish. If someone does something which doesn't make sense and wouldn't happen, or similarly, something doesn't happen which you know should then it ruins it. You can laugh at me all you want but I just enjoy well made good quality stuff and if you want an example of what I think is the bees knees then look no further than The Expanse. The reason why I love the HISHEs on youtube and they make me laugh so much is because they pick up on all the stuff I think of while I am watching the film. |
Re: Reacher
Well you totally missed the point of The Orville. Would have thought having Seth at the lead would have given you the clue
|
Re: Reacher
So surely then if The Orville shows that the characters like to use humour in tense situations, and they consistently enforce this then it should help your realism factor?
