I spent ages transferring VHS tape recordings to DVD. I'm glad I did, as the next generation of TVs had no scart sockets, required by the VHS players.

I did the same with video recordings of the children when they were young, but converted them to .mp4.

(The recordings, not the children…)

and with VHS recorders/players seemingly no longer being manufactured the time is to do this before there is no equipment on which to play the cassettes.

Nope, will never happen. That said there is something that is lost due to the sheer amount of easily accessible films etc at a touch of a button, it is something that is hard to appreciate. Compared to getting the film you wanted from 'Blockbusters'...
