Re: M1000 is available. How to order?
Basically the Hub4 is already not fit for purpose as it can't reach full speed.

Re: M1000 is available. How to order?
Let's face it, these sorts of speeds are not aimed at single user households. How many PCs etc can cope with 10Gbps?
The Asus AC68U has link aggregation, so the over 1Gbps speed can be passed along by the shub in router mode. |
Re: M1000 is available. How to order?
Be interesting to see how the ASA view advertising a 1gig service whilst providing hardware that can't actually deliver that wired though.

You can't access the Samknows speed test in Modem mode as a FYI. Quote:
If everything in the stack is syncing at 1 Gigabit speed I can't see them getting too concerned about overhead that everyone experiences. Besides; it's not like the hardware isn't capable. The second you put a second ethernet cable or a wifi device on there you'll get the full 1.1-1.2. Installed at 10am: https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broad...04-01-2020.png The increased latency around 4 is from me doing a bunch of load testing elsewhere. All in all very happy with it. Getting full speed, web browsing noticeably faster and I'll be able to work 3 times as quick as I did before (when working from home in Bioinformatics I'm downloading 100GB+ whole human genome sequences multiple times a day, so even though there's only me and the Husband in the house this will make a huge impact! If anyone's interested in the line stats: Spoiler:
Interestingly, the following message comes up in the network log upon every bootup: Code:
RNG-RSP CCAP Commanded Power in Excess of 6 dB Below the Value Corresponding to the Top of the DRW;CM-MAC=e4:57:40:07:8f:50;CMTS-MAC=5c:83:8f:dc:66:3d;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.1; ---------- Post added at 01:26 ---------- Previous post was at 01:20 ---------- Quote:
In terms of getting full speed.....not much you can do if you want modem mode no way you'll get more than ~940-980Mbps (although the speed tests do often blip over 1Gbps when I tested it with a single cable). What I've done is dual-NAT the thing with 2 ethernet cables from my Unifi router to the Virgin. I only ever do manual port forwarding anyway so it's not a huge issue. Then you can either RR-Lb on the router side or segregate the network. Doing RR-Lb works well for me. You'll still hit the limit on 1 single connection but most use cases these days initiate multiple connections anyway. Web browsing was immediately noticeably faster for me. Latency ever so slightly reduced as well. |
Re: M1000 is available. How to order?
Great to see the gigabit packages are rolling out to other areas now. As others have mentioned, it's a shame the Hub isn't sporting some 2.5G ports but at this stage I'm more interested in the upload speed uplifts that'll hopefully come down the line.

Re: M1000 is available. How to order?
Yodel delivered the Hub 4 on the appointed day and hour.
VM have automated activation by use of text messaging. When ready, I had to send a “GO” text and they activated the circuit. In router mode, I got 980/54. In modem mode directly to the Hub 4, same. In modem mode vis an ASU’s RT AC68U I could barely get 800/52. I put this down to the ASU’s router. So while I mull over an ASU’s AX11000, I’ll revert to router mode and big W the IP address change bullet for two attached peripherals. I haven’t yet tried real world download speeds. I like 50 meg upload; I can’t see it rising to 100 meg until they have a DOCSIS 3.1 solution for the upstream. It would screw everybody’s upstream if, with 4 channels, they allowed 100 meg. Three further observations: 1/ It’s DOCSIS 3.1 that’s used for the 1 Gig service; 2/ I have 32 downstream channels, one of which is duff and not locked; 3/ The Hub 4 light stays dim white in modem mOde. A minor annoyance. |

Regarding the light, there is no setting to change the colour to mauve for modem mode.

Re: M1000 is available. How to order?
*doh* you're right only router mode!
It's these kinda little things that VM always seem to get almost right but then fall short at the final hurdle :( |
Re: M1000 is available. How to order?
The ASUS ROG AX11000 has 2.5Ge.
Anyway, my area has a major outage at the moment (since 09:00). However, there is stuff to fix on the Hub 4 in that regard. The light went red (as it should if there is no service). But now, it's dim white as if normal but no locked channels, no TV. |

Has anyone done a speed test in the gig service be interesting to see, I will be getting it when comes out in my area.
