In this respect the V6 is a bit of a downgrade from the original Tivo that can do all this without the need for a separate BB connection.

Quite. Though it's an upgrade from the version of the box they will be using in other Liberty Global areas, I believe those versions don't have a hard disk as they use The Cloud for recording.

I thought the future was using the Cloud for recording.

The only problem I would have with this would be an arbitrary time limit on my recordings - I don't like being told how long I have to watch something (same applies to catch-up).

I was more looking on it from there's more hardware capability in the box, the Cloud element is just a software difference, VM's version of the V6 can, in theory, do Cloud as well as Local. Doing both gives the user choice, which is of course better than having one or the other.

You're probably right as TiVo only requires 10mb, which VM always claimed was good enough for HD streaming, unless they've changed their minds again. I'm sure it was 100mb for the V6 originally but they were probably just trying to upsell.

Well indeed - and the new IP-based VOD that Sky Cinema and quite a few boxsets use, works really well in HD on the TiVo

I didn't know this was implemented since I rarely use boxsets on VM and don't have Sky Cinema. Nice to hear. :)

The V6 box is much quicker.
