Amazon Orders Lord of the Rings Season 2 Early. They must have faith in it. Season 1 is set to debut sometime in 2021.

Given the huge production investment I imagine they are very keen to keep things running as smoothly as possible and it is in their interest to keep the sets up and running and keep the crew and actors signed up to maintain continuity and let everyone know what they are doing. It is good planning because any one of a million things can go wrong with something like this and you only need one cog to break for it all to grind to a halt.

I was going to say that and you need it in a series like this to make it more realistic. I hate watching something so intense and with such a strong fantasy or escapism story line only for it to have known actors in. "Oh, there is Tom Cruise again". Although it has been cancelled, that for me was the mistake they made in casting in the was-going-to-be new GoT series with people like Naomi Watts. They are telling a new story in a new land (universe) and you need new (unknown) people who you can't relate to make it feel new and authentic.

There is one GOT star in the LOTR series though.;)

as an example, I went to see 1917 today and I thought "hey, there's Rob Stark". I haven't seen him in anything since GoT.

If you are referring to Robert Aramayo he hardly starred in it. 4 episodes as young Ned does not a star make.

Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone

Quote:

Viewers can expect to see at least five seasons of the series with eight to ten episodes planned per season
