I have a HUB 3.

What is the difference between a TiVo and the V6?

Light years especially in terms of speed apparently.

If you only have the one, the main differences you will notice is that it reacts as soon as you press the button on your remote control, Netflix connects much faster, and the BBC i-Player actually works faultlessly.

I have two V6s and particularly like the fact that you can play the recordins of both boxes on either box.

The UHD is nice too!

Have you tried the the VM TV Control app as a remote? it may help you out while you wait for a new TiVo. Also, it completely rules out the remote being the problem if this also doesn't work.

Your TiVo will need to be plugged into your router with an ethernet cable to do this though

Oh dear! The V6 prefers an ethernet connection

It does, but it's quite happy on a stable WiFi connection.

If you get it swapped over you will really notice the difference. Night and day. The v6 is really good.

Why does the V6 need Ethernet or WiF1 connection?

Because unlike the Tivo, which has its own separate 10MB interweb connection, the V6 doesn't have one. It would still work but you'd get no programme updates or be able to use IPlayer etc.

Do what's best for you Ken. The engineer will probably have both types of boxes if you ask. I have a Tivo and a V6. The V6 is certainly quicker and has more storage, i use mine via Wifi and its ok 99% of the time, very occasionally i have to 'reconnect'/'reboot'. One thing about the V6, it doesn't have a SCART output if you use that for anything.

However if you want the old Tivo, ask for it. Personally i'd go for the V6 in your situation, if the Wifi works fine in your house.

The VM agent said will send a replacement box that I will have to install, no engineer.

I rarely get a re-boot issue on my two V6s, which rely on wifi. I used to get it frequently on my old TiVo, though.

As Mr K says, it is your choice, but the V6 is a much more reliable machine. I would certainly recommend it.

I assume it will be like for like, I just hope it will be a TiVo not a V6
