I've made hundreds from cashback in credit cards, and never paid them a penny interest. Got a Halifax one that pays 2% on fuel and groceries, sadly no longer available, but I'm not giving it up ! They also give you protection on purchases. Used wisely, i.e. not for credit, they can be useful.

Have to agree - I use it and pay it off in full at the end of the month (and I get air miles in my BA Amex card).

Amex BA is really good if you manage to get the right reward flights

Agreed - we’ve had Business Class flights to Antigua, New York, Atlanta, and Boston using Avios, only paying the taxes (you get a free companion voucher if you hit a certain amount of spend per year).

Amex tends to do quite well then if you meet the requirements for a bonus. Remember Amex charges a higher transaction fees hence why their rewards a bit better. However you really do need to pay off the card each month since they're not about competing on lower interest rates, they're not designed for holding debt really. Obviously they're also not accepted everywhere.
