I’d equally be amazed if Sky/Virgin still notify, but I’m sure those at TV licensing would never voluntarily clarify if this was the case. The belief alone will endure a few sign up, those that don’t can be harassed in the usual manner.
Virgin obviously don't as we take the TV pack as part of a bundle deal and TVL still don't know who the "occupier" is.

Why does anybody take these bozos seriously?

If you only have a B&W TV but have VM equipment that records then by the letter of the law you need a colour licence as this covers recording in colour.

If there’s no legal requirement anyone can find on the statute books then under data protection and GDPR it’d probably be illegal for Sky/Virgin to pass details on to be used/processed by a private sector contractor enforcing TVL.

It would only be illegal if those whose data was being passed on were not notified that this would happen.
