It is not the first time the Russians have shot down a civilian aircraft.. anybody remember this...

Speaking with some knowledge (IFF).

If a Civil plane broadcasts it details, surely a military jet can spoof civil details, so On radar ir would appear as a non hostile?

Highly unlikely since modern IFF system exchanges are encrypted.
