Political parties need to correct their own falsehoods before they start preaching to the media..

Social media is full of fake news and the political parties/activists who exploit it know full well what they're doing. They publish/propagate lies and untruths knowing full well that they'll spread rapidly and be believed by the gullible. Nobody has to be exposed to the Daily Mail or Guardian but social media is invasive IMHO.

Let's say Corbyn won the next election. Would you want him and momentum deciding what is fake news?

At present, Momentum have been very successful in the use of social media to propagate their views. All that is proposed here is that the Conservatives take them on at their own game.

No it isn't. This isn't about the Conservatives doing their own social media campaigns. It's the government doing 'something' about fake news.

Yes, correcting it when it appears. However, we will have to wait for the full details before we know how far this will go. There is no suggestion, however, that they are attempting to 'control the media'. Any such attempt, inevitably, will fail.

Of course it will. The Leveson Inquiry proved that the press and politicians have a far too close a relationship because we still don't have a really independent press oversight body and the second half of the Leveson inquiry got kicked into the long grass. They aren't going to upset the owners of media outlets that donate to the Tory or Labour parties.
