A machine might record the numbers of notes it gives you but what if you spend them then claim you lost them?

I lost £70 of gift vouchers last year. Took wallet out of pocket and dropped them. less than a minute later I turned round and walked back but they had gone. Someone had actually lifted them, called Police who did investigate and she was seen on CCTV right after I dropped them. However they could not track her down.

How do you prove who the real owner of any cash you find on the street though?

Unless it's with a wallet/purse with some form of ID, then it's fair game as far as I'm concerned.

Well as I was just a few feet and the person saw me drop it then it was theft. They could easily have returned it.
